Blurb:

A life has ended, the future is lost, and a war has just begun.

An explosion has split Time and Archer has paid the ultimate price, leaving Saira heartbroken and desperate to repair the rupture. But the blast has trapped Saira in an alternate future where Mongers are cornered predators and Death is the ultimate judge. If Saira and her larcenous friend, Ringo, ever want to see Archer alive, they must pull off the impossible – alter history at a moment in time to which they cannot return. But saving Archer will restore a timeline where Mongers have complete control, mixed bloods are hunted prey, and the Descendant world is spiraling into chaos.

As Saira uses her Clocking skills to prevent her worst nightmares from coming true, she travels from the dirty streets of Victorian London to the secret archives of the Vatican. She seeks a purpose that is greater than smashed hope, greater than lost love, greater than the prophecy that has shaped her very existence. She must use the lessons of history to free the present and shape the future. And in the end, Saira and her friends will face War and Death in the most important battle of all – the one for Peace.

My Review:

4.5 stars — This was a seriously solid series ender!  While there are a few things that I ponder over, in general it wrapped things up really well, answering questions and setting everything into a good position where I can imagine this world continuing on.

Saira really felt like she came into her own throughout this series.  She had a LOT of ups and downs, and went through some really emotional periods in this book.  I appreciated seeing such a raw and real view of grief, from both her and Ringo.  I think in some ways it helped to make her stronger.  I was only so-so on how she was brought out of it, but I kept going on the ride and forgot about my reluctance.

They definitely made decisions in this book that baffled me at times…I still don’t quite get their decision to follow Tom’s wish.  In some ways I think it was to wrap things up timeline-wise, and I’m less certain how I feel about that.  I get that they are still young, but I think I wanted them to start thinking through the consequences of their decisions earlier than they did.  This would be why I rounded down instead of up.

But despite some of that, I really did enjoy how certain pieces fell into place, and how once they did eventually learn and make smarter decisions it felt very satisfying.

I can’t wait to read the bonus book about Ringo and Charlie, and I can definitely see checking out all the spinoffs.  It started a bit slower to me, but this series definitely ended a hit.

COYER Community: I have ADORED buddy reading this series with Berls.  We did pretty great keeping together on this last one, though it maybe took us a bit to have our full final discussion.  She also rated it 4.5 stars (her review coming soon).
