My rating:
Blurb:The race to the Still Blue has reached a stalemate. Aria and Perry are determined to find this last safe haven from the Aether storms before Sable and Hess do—and they are just as determined to stay together.
Within the confines of a cave they're using as a makeshift refuge, they struggle to reconcile their people, Dwellers and Outsiders, who are united only in their hatred of their desperate situation. Meanwhile, time is running out to rescue Cinder, who was abducted by Hess and Sable for his unique abilities. Then Roar arrives in a grief-stricken fury, endangering all with his need for revenge.
Out of options, Perry and Aria assemble an unlikely team for an impossible rescue mission. Cinder isn't just the key to unlocking the Still Blue and their only hope for survival--he's also their friend. And in a dying world, the bonds between people are what matter most.
In this final book in her earth-shattering Under the Never Sky trilogy, Veronica Rossi raises the stakes to their absolute limit and brings her epic love story to an unforgettable close.
4 stars — I was immediately drawn into this book just like in book 2, but I will admit the latter part of the story surprised me and I wasn’t quite as excited about the turns it took. Not that they were bad or unrealistic, I just didn’t personally enjoy them as much.
Perry still had some growing to do in this book, but I felt that he did get there with a little help from Aria. Aria dealt with some struggles of her own, and I felt for her on some of those. I really did love to see her confidence grow, and how competent she has become over the series. She was definitely the highlight character for me.
The secondary characters were still pretty solid, though it was difficult to see the mistakes that some of them made that really impacted the story. I think I was overly bummed by some of them. Then again, I loved seeing Brooke become a better person in the previous novella, and how that took even more shape in this story.
I think part of the thing I wasn’t expecting in this series was just how harsh and brutal it was going to be. Maybe my heart is too soft? I don’t know, but it just wasn’t my favourite.
All in all this was a solid series and I’m glad I finally read it. I don’t think it’s going to become a fave reread though, just didn’t fulfil those buttons for me.
COYER Community: I buddy read this book with Lillian, though she had read this series back when it first came out. I don’t think she’s redoing her reviews, but she rated it 5 stars and you can see her review here.
