4 stars — This was a solid novella to fill in the gaps between books 1 and 2. I read it in order, but I’m writing this review after having finished book 2 as well, and I really think that it adds to the series as a whole, so I definitely recommend checking it out.
If nothing else, you get to see the aftermath of killing Steelheart on Newcago, and how things are going, what the Reckoners are trying to achieve, how they are helping. Obviously it’s great to get to see our characters again, and have a few fun moments…but mostly it helps to set up tension in the form of other Epics coming to challenge — and a glimpse at possibilities for their weaknesses.
I enjoyed it, and was definitely glad I didn’t skip it.
