Blurb:

His love for an enemy prince threatens his very life.

Dare does not mind serving the spoiled and cruel Prince Darius. Growing up with him, Dare does everything for Darius including homework, bed play demands, and even doubling for him as the prince grows too paranoid to face even the smallest of crowds.

But everything changes in a single moment when Dare, while posing as Darius, is abducted by the enemy.

A captive in a new and hostile land, Dare meets another prince who seems just as indulged and rotten as Darius—until Dare gets to know him, until they fall in love. Against his will, Dare must continue to play the role of Prince Darius for real, or risk everything: his love, his land, and his very life.

His only chance for survival is to keep a secret from the one he loves, a secret that is also killing him.

A male/male, enemies to lovers novel of mad kings, troubled princes, abduction, fevers, cold dungeons, warm hearths, comfort, wine, and true love.

My Review:

Favorite Quotes:

But somewhere out in the world he wondered if there was someone like him, thinking as he did at this very moment, that out beyond the walls and lands of a farm or city or castle, the twin to his heart waited to be found.

“I have had lovers look at me many ways,” Malory observed. “But never the way you’re looking at me now.” “How?” “As if you are dreaming awake.” “Maybe I am.” Dare smiled.

I liked this book. It was cute and didn’t give me too much info dump.  It was just what I was in the mood for. A M/M historical romance.  Heavy on the romance.

Dare was compassionate and understanding even though Prince Darius treated him so terribly. He just seemed to accept his fate with as much grace as one in his position could.  And while that seems like rolling over and giving up, to me it didn’t feel that way.  It was almost like he refused to give in to the darkness that surrounded him.  Even when he had no hope of ever becoming free. And I loved that about him.

He struggled with his feelings while simultaneously worrying if his cators would see through his farce.  I can’t say I remember much about the love interest so that tells you enough about that character right there. The romance was a slow burn and it was cute if a bit teenager-ish. The talks they had, playing games with each other and opening themselves up to one another was adorable.
