This edition follows the original numbering scheme. More recent publishers have re-numbered the volumes so that the books are ordered chronologically. This was reportedly the author's preference. Other editions number this book as #5.

My Review:

This book is one of my favorites in the series.  After this one it kinda all goes downhill for me.

Re-reading it with my daughter in this day really makes me think of the differences in our mindsets from when I was a kid and readinf it now.  For instance, Eutace is a wretched boy.  Very immature, stubborn and reckless.  I found myself really disliking him more than I remembered in previous readings.  I was happy when his character redeemed himself, it was almost to a part where I didn’t care what happened to him.  He made a good dragon.

There were so many cool adventures in this one, I’ve always loved adventure stories and this one delivered.  My daughter and I laughed when they went to the island with the one legged folks.  We had some pictures in our book so we stopped at every one and talked about them a bit.  And the island with the gold man at the bottom was super eerie.  My favorite character in this is definitely Reepicheep. He was such a noble little guy, even when he couldn’t move past his pride.

I would recommedn this book for anyone who likes children’s classics.  It is worth it to read.
