Blurb:

Seventeen-year-old Skylin has always lived a fairly normal life. Well, except for the fact that whenever her emotions run high, strange things occur, like fires starting out of nowhere or the ground freezing over.

Still, her life hasn't been too terrible until the day her parents vanish into thin air, and she’s shipped off to live with her father's friend and his six sons.

Skylin isn’t sure if she can survive the chaos that is the Everettson family. But she doesn’t have a choice unless her parents are found, so she tries to make the best of the situation and befriend the Everettsons, even though not all of them are fans of her, especially Foster, a guy she once had a crush on until he opened his mouth.

But turns out, the Everettsons aren’t your typical family, and Skylin soon realizes she's not the only person in the world that has strange abilities. And in order to survive the dangerous magical world she’s thrown into, she’ll have to put her trust in the not only the Everettsons, but Foster as well.

My Review:

I’m a huge fan of Jessica Sorenson.  I used to read all her books when I was younger so I had a good idea of what to expect going in.  I like the beginning of this book.  It had all the elements of a great paranormal YA.  I was not expecting the family to have the powers they had, so that was cool.  And the world building was a bit inconsisitent to be honest.  It was kinda all over the place.

Skylin was bit too impetuous for me. Granted, she is a teenager so it was consistent with her character’s age.  However, lately I have found that the newer books have more mature YA characters, I guess I was expecting that.  Not that it ruined her character for me.  She seemed to adjust to all the rapid changes in her life pretty well once everything was out in the open.  And the brothers didn’t make it easy for her being so secretive.

Also, I found this quasi-romance to be a bit light weight reverse harem-ish.  They all seemed to have these ‘moments’ with her that I wasn’t sure were meant to be romantic but kinda came across that way.  IDK what to make of it.  The story ended at a really good part and I didn’t feel that we had a traditional climax and resolution.  But it was short enough that I wasn’t that upset about it.  At least I liked it enough to read the next one.

I’ve only read her contemps, and even those fell in quality as time went on… I hate when people don’t do cliffhangers right.
