Blurb:Not all love stories are written the same way. Ours had torn chapters, missing paragraphs, and a bittersweet ending.
Luna Rexroth is everyone’s favorite wallflower.
Sweet.Caring.Charitable.Quiet.Fake.Underneath the meek, tomboy exterior everyone loves (yet pities) is a girl who knows exactly what, and who, she wants—namely, the boy from the treehouse who taught her how to curse in sign language.Who taught her how to laugh. To live.To love.Knight Cole is everyone’s favorite football hero.Gorgeous.Athletic.Rugged.Popular.Liar.
This daredevil hell-raiser could knock you up with his gaze alone, but he only has eyes for the girl across the street: Luna.
But Luna is not who she used to be. She doesn’t need his protection anymore. When life throws a curveball at All Saints’ golden boy, he’s forced to realize not all knights are heroes.
Sometimes, the greatest love stories flourish in tragedy.
Favorite Quotes:
Our relationship was such a mess. He was torn apart by his mother’s situation and me sleeping with someone else, and I was scrambling to become normal, finally out of my parents’ nest, with banged-up wings and frayed feathers. We both had so much going on.
How difficult was it to not-break a heart? I’d always been so mad at Knight for doing this to me. Maybe he hadn’t meant to, either. Maybe hearts were like carefully tended flowers. Sometimes they just wilted, no matter what you did.
You need to understand that sometimes, the consequences of your actions are destructive. You need to forgive yourself and make sure the other person knows you’re sorry. You can’t do more than that. You’re not responsible for someone else’s happiness.”
This story really gutted me. It had so much tragety and emotional upheaval. I didn’t want to like it and the angst got to me a bit. But I couldn’t stop reading it. I just had to know what was gonna happen next.
The growth of both of these characters was intense. Luna was a very interesting character. It was like she didn’t know what to do without Knight. She literally lived in his shadow, and she knew it. It was almost obsession-like. Yet she couldn’t stop going back and getting hurt by him. And he made it easy for her to forgive him. When she finally made the decision to go to a college far away and be on her own I cheered so hard for her to succeed..
I didn’t want to like Knight, I found him arrogant and cocky but his love for his friends and family was genuine, pure and undeniable. He was devastated by the things he couldn’t control and spiraled. Like he legit couldn’t cope. It was hard to watch him self-sabotage, but it was beautiful to watch him dig himself out.
Reading the ebb and flow of their relationship was what finally pushed me over the edge from 4 stars to 5. It wasn’t easy and it was agonizing at times but so worth it. They both showed amazing courage in their young age. They didn’t shy away from what needed to be done even though it was painful to do. They were both willing to risk everything to be better people for each other. It was quite beautiful.
I need to recover with some easy reads.
