My Review:

4.5 stars — Yay for exceeded expectations!  I was definitely super looking forward to this book from the moment I met Willa in the first book, even if I was less sure of Jackson.  And I devoured this book!  It just hit so many spots for me, you know??  We all have our different tastes and preferences, and this one just worked for me on a lot of levels.

I probably read this one more than listened, b/c I just couldn’t help myself.  I also sometimes find it harder to listen to the same narrators 2 books in a row, unless they change up how they narrate the characters…and there weren’t a lot of differences between Thea and Willa, or Logan and Jackson.  Don’t get me wrong, the narration was still solid, and I know that kind of…subtle changing is not necessarily common.  I’d still recommend the audio, just maybe not the first 2 books right in a row if you’re like me.

Willa was so my kind of heroine.  She’s what had me excited, and she’s what had me loving this book.  I don’t know why, I haven’t psychoanalyzed myself or anything, but I’m always drawn to the timid heroines.  But timid to a degree, you know?  And Willa had the perfect amount — shy, sweet, but there was fire in her when pushed.  And I think watching her find her bravery was particularly rewarding.  There was a particular scene where I just wanted to hug Willa, cause she done good.  And she was genuinely a really sweet person.  I loved how loving she was, how kind, how joyous for her campers.  I loved watching her admire her adorable parents, and want what they had.  And I loved the quiet faith she placed in Jackson.  She wasn’t perfect by any means, and there were moments I was bummed when she didn’t speak up, but I thought it made her growth believable and realistic.

Jackson definitely frustrated me more…he was so unbelievably damaged from his childhood.  But I felt like his upbringing did explain him, even if I wanted to shake him on more than one occasion.  I loved how he couldn’t help himself with being drawn to Willa once he *saw* her.  And though he tried to fight it, he rarely succeeded.  I was worried that his self-sabotaging was going to be too much for me, but in the end I loved the moment when she broke through.

And they were so cute together…and not just cute, but steamy too!  I really enjoyed their connection.

There were some twists and turns in this story too, but I feel like they fit into the story just a bit better than the ones in book 1.  Or maybe I was just so in love it didn’t matter.

Definitely really enjoying myself with this series.  I just want to gobble up the rest, they’re so easy to read and hit me right where I need it.
