Blurb:

Carlos has spent his entire life avoiding attachments to individuals and has devoted his time to protecting his race. His childhood taught him that something is out there, threatening the existence of werewolves, and he will let nothing interfere with his vendetta to stop the threat.
Physical attachment and vendetta collide when he sees Isabelle. She’s meant to be his Mate and instinct demands that he protect her above all else. However, letting go of his past is as impossible as embracing a future filled with love. Isabelle wants nothing to do with him, except fight with him. Carlos must find a way through her emotional armor and hope, together, they can heal and face the threat.

My Review:

Favorite Quote:

She glanced at the boy, who was still sitting on the ground and rubbing his throat.  I stood as he gave her a thumbs-up.  She gave me a flat look when she turned back to me. “If he has more bruises from that, I’m coming after you.” I hoped he had bruises.

Originally I was not looking forward to reading this book because Carlos is my least favorite of the companions.  But I figured I would try my best to give it a shot and not let my head get in the way ya know?

Turns out, this is one of my favorite companion novels to date. While there are some moments I chose to overlook,(for instance, Carlos inability to let her grieve and all the pressure he put on her to bite him) on the whole it was excellent. I enjoyed the way he tried to be patient with Isabelle and Ethan’s closeness. I really loved Ethan and totally cried at his end in the book.  Honestly I wanted Isabelle and Ethan to give it a go but knew it wouldn’t jive with the plot line.  But as Carlos and Isabelle’s relationship evolved, I could see a future for them.  They took a bit of a different route to get where they needed to go (IE; they did a lot of talking and sparring) but the destination was the same as the previous books.

Also, WHAT THE HECK IS UP WITH THE TWIN THING!!! I was pretty pissed that they threw in that little piece of fluff. I mean, what was the point of that? I’ll tell you, not a damn thing. Take it out and it doesn’t change the story in the slightest.  I never understand why authors do this. Unless they are just trying to piss off their readers.  Cause that’s the only thing it does for me.

But I let that go after a slight yell at the kindle. All in all it was a great story and I’m racking my brain trying to find out who is the last Judgment’s companion?

Any guesses?

This book will count towards my Sci-fi vs Fantasy Book Bingo for Fantastic Beasts. #SFvFBingo
