Blurb:

Dark Fantasy. Dragons. Intrigue. Romance.

More than anything, I crave adventure. But in the disease ridden land of Verald, life is mapped out much like the well-established rings of our kingdom.

At the very heart reigns our vicious king and Lord Irrik, an invincible dragon shifter, at his side. Their power poisons the land and the people, leading to a steadily mounting number of enemies.

But change is coming.

When the rebellion surges, the king strikes back. Captured by Lord Irrik, I'm suddenly embroiled in a deadly game. One where I'm desperate to understand the rules.

Because I'm not only fighting for my life... but also a love that could be the very key to my freedom.

My Review:

Favorite Quotes:

Lord Irrik was officially weirding me out, which was saying a lot because I was pretty sure “weirding” wasn’t a word. I was inventing words because my vocabulary had no words for him.

First rule of torture club, don’t talk about torture club.

Ok, so I loved this book, hell, I loved this series! So much so I’m thinking about reading it again.  It is a pretty slow simmer romance but that even takes a back seat to the world building and the main plot.  Gah, I love these kinds of stories that just pull you in and hold your attention through it all.

I loved the whole premise of this book.  I’m a HUGE fan of rebellions, political intrigue, action and magic.  When you add just the right amount of romance, BAM! You have the perfect storm!

Ryn is everything I could have hoped for in a MC. She shows immense growth in this book and I really loved that. Now for those of you who like a fast paced story, this is not for you. It is a bit on the slow side but I didn’t really notice myself.  And I notice those kinds of things. Back to Ryn, she is sheltered and knows it, gotta love a self aware kind of gal.  You know the term “Watch out what you wish for?” Well, this should be her life motto.  But she rolls with the punches (Literally) and we get to see her struggle with the hopelessness and internalness of it.  I just really like when authors can write a well laid out internal struggle.  So good!

And Lord Irrik! OMG, he was almost irredeemable for me. I saw almost…..And I totally didn’t see the ending coming with his role in the story.  I was on the fence with liking him most of the time, and after getting to the end I see why he was so wishy washy when it came to Ryn.  He played a very political and manipulative game.  And Ryn has every right to feel betrayed by him. Okay, okay, I can’t really go into more detail without giving too much away.

Just…go read it.
