Blurb:

I will not be ruled by fear.

A depraved emperor. A wasted realm. A dying race.

With Tyrrik by my side, I’ll lead the charge to remedy it all.

After discovering the rightful heir to the Phaetyn, an alliance with the healers should be easy as pancakes. But while the armies of Verald and Gemond march to the border for war, the emperor delivers a crushing blow that threatens to put everything at risk.

As I fight my father’s staggering power, I’m compelled to face evil on his terms. A twisted darkness worse than anything I’ve experienced.

Nothing could’ve prepared me for this.

How far would you go to defeat a merciless sovereign?

I’ll lie to the liars. I’ll betray the betrayers. I’ll kill the killers.

I will conquer my fear.

My Review:

What can I say about this book except…..OMG IT WAS THE BEST ENDING EVER!

I really loved the evoloution of the characters in this one.  Tyrrik let a bit more of his alpha-ness out and Ryn became a smug badass with her decisivness and her skills to back it up. Her powers really blossomed in this book and she took to the training of them seriously.

I loved how they were equally smitten with each other and literally couldn’t stand to be away from each other once Ryn fully commited to the relationship.  Their relationship evolved throughout the series as well.  Tyrrik knew she was it for him from the moment he first touched, but it took Ryn a while to come to terms with the whole mating thing.  To her credit she didn’t blame him for anything, and he in turn gave her time and didn’t keep things from her when she was confused about her dragon side.  He was a great teacher and partner to her.  And because of that their connection felt so much deeper than others shifter bonds I’ve read.

Ugh I can’t say enough about them as a couple apparently. But I must go into the action because holy cow was there a bunch of it! It was jam packed. The story line flowed quickly in this one and all the loose ends were tied up nicely if a bit rushed a the end.  The big bad was everything I hoped and expected him to be and the end battle was phenomenal!  The action scenes were concise and not drawn out and the intrigue in this book was just difficult enough that I didn’t get confused.  I love me some good political intrigue and rebellion and this book had it all!

Phew, I feel like I just blurted that all out in one breath.  Everyone should go read this series.
