Blurb:

Megan’s temper lands her in Girderon Academy, an exclusive school founded in a town of misfit supernatural creatures. It’s the one place she should be able to fit in, but she can’t. Instead, she itches to punch the smug sheriff in his face, pull the hair from a pack of territorial blondes, and kiss the smile off the shy boy’s face. Unfortunately, she can’t do any of that, either, because humans are dying and all clues point to her.

With Megan’s temper flaring, time to find the real killer and clear her name is running out. As much as she wants to return to her own life, she needs to embrace who and what she is. It’s the only way to find and punish the creature responsible.

My Review:

Favorite Quote:

“What do you mean we’re here?” I asked.  “Where is here?” “Home,” she said, wading through the grass to the front porch.  The boards held her weight and didn’t send her plummeting straight to hell like I’d hoped.

Gods this book was everything I wanted it to be.  I’m a huge lover of urban fantasy involving mythology.  Like, a lot, I may have an obsession.  But the problem with this is it’s incredibly hard to find quality books within this genre.  Enter Melissa Haag.  She makes it seems so easy.  This is a sassy, fast paced story with quick witted characters and edgy dialogue.  I loved her JO6 series so I knew this was gonna be a winner too.

I especially love Megan’s no holds bar approach to life.  She doesn’t even try to filter, just says whatever is on her mind and owns it.  I will say that her stubborn attitude did get a bit tired but it was pretty minor compared to all the other things going on in the story.

I loved the mystery of the deaths, it gave me something to latch onto when the romance of the story moved so slow.  I loved the slow moving, don’t get me wrong, but it was nice to focus on something else instead of just waiting for things to mature.

These supporting characters were simply easy to love and helped to move the story along.  A griffin? Really?  Oanen was so unassuming yet protective, not in an overbearing way. (well, maybe a little)  He was quiet to Megan’s storm, always listening, watching and ready to act but never before it was necessary.  I loved him immediately.  And Eliana was a walking contradiction, a Succubus that didn’t want to seduce men in order to feed, but wanted real emotions.  I mean, how do you come up with this?  She was so sweet, endearing and there for Megan when no one else really was.  Fenris offered great comedic relief when situations got too a bit too hairy.  (pun intended) He was an easy going, laid back alpha, which seems a bit opposite, but he also had some depth that he hid quite well.  I liked his way of dealing with the female’s pining for him.  He was a bit trapped in that situation s well.

Overall a great start to a wonderful series.  And I finished all of these books back to back over xmas break.  I wish there were more. I guess I’ll have to settle for her other works.
