Blurb:

One week. Manhattan apartment. Super-hot ex-boyfriend.

…What’s the worst that could happen?

It’s been nine months since Kaitlyn Parker has seen or heard from Martin Sandeke—nine months and five stages of matter. She’s lived through the worst of first-love heartbreak, and is most certainly stronger (and less likely to hide in science cabinets) than ever before.

But now Martin is back. And he wants to be friends. But he’s sending mixed signals to the Bunsen burner in Kaitlyn’s pants.

Will Martin re-capture Kaitlyn’s heart? Can Kaitlyn and Martin ever be just friends? Or, despite an abundance of chemistry, are some bonds just too unstable to endure?

My Review:

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
3.5 stars — Interesting conclusion to the series. I simultaneously enjoyed the way this one played out, and grew frustrated with the obvious plot ploys…I knew exactly what was going on, and so it was frustrating to watch my hero and heroine fumbling around missing each other. Made me spend a lot of time wondering if *this* would finally be the moment where they would get it. So that took me out of the moment a little while reading. But like I said, I also kind of enjoyed the way their relationship played out. So basically I confuse even myself. 😛

So what exactly did I enjoy? I enjoyed seeing them both grow over the time that they were apart. I enjoyed the way Martin was trying to reconnect with Kaitlyn, even if Kaitlyn was too oblivious to see it. I liked their interactions with each other. Their friendship did make me smile. They still had their volatile moments, but at least Martin was less “evil” sounding from her perspective. And when things finally started moving in the direction I wanted it to, I really enjoyed the way it ended and the bit of HEA we got to see.

ON REREAD:
4 stars — Surprisingly, given my rating changed slightly, I think my original review stands true.  So why did I enjoy it more?  Hmmm…it could definitely be that listening to Ms. Dukehart narrate it was just more fun somehow…  It could be that I kind of knew that this edition was going to be a whole bad communication thing, so I was prepared…and thus it didn’t bother me as much?  I don’t know.  But I did.  I still feel the same way, but I was just more satisfied somehow.  Don’t question it, just bask in the enjoyment.

Normally I’m right there with you…but it’s Penny Reid, so of course she had enough other goodness to make up for it.
