My Review:

DNF @ end of chapter 6: So, there were parts of this that I was REALLY enjoying — their text message banter was actually really good!  But there were a few things that made me give my phone the side eye, and then I went looking at reviews, and I figured I’d just cut my losses.

First: narrators seemed good.  I like Mr. Morgan, though sometimes I am not a fan of his female voices…they’re not bad, I’ve just heard better.  And this was my first time with Ms. Erickson, but her pacing seemed great, and I enjoyed the way she was distinguishing characters, and the emotions that she was conveying.

OK, to the story.  Our characters seemed okay, though Dani was an almost extreme case of a doormat…not sure how I would have handled that long term.  She could be back and forth with Ram as well, and I wasn’t sure why.  I was a bit startled that she initiated the phone sex, it seemed out of character.  Ram seemed fairly cool sometimes, but there would be these throwaway comments that rubbed me the wrong way — like saying things like “well, I’m not a fattie.”  Or talking about how his chest was good, and he worked out.  I’m not meaning to judge or anything, but it gave a shallower, more physical appearance vibe, even as they talked about having beautiful personalities.  It just…I wondered if these were my kind of characters, you know?

Honestly, the ones who rubbed me the wrong way the most were Dani’s BFF Andi, and Ram’s older brother Roman.  Just from their interactions with each of them, I was NOT a fan.  Andi’s obsession with getting a dick pic was odd, and while I know she had good intentions trying to toughen Dani up, she herself walked all over Dani.  And Roman seemed kind of douchey…  When they got drunk in the bar, and Ram mentions how Roman gets more touchy feely with the waitresses as he gets drunker, and he said this in a “god I love this guy” kind of way, I was out.  I’m not really a fan of that behavior personally, and that’s definitely not something to aspire to and look fondly on.  I tried to give it another shot, but honestly I just figure it’s a waste of my time since we’re unlikely to be a match (especially given the spoilers I read).

Ah well.

  1. Uh oh… I just got this one the other day. I was excited to read it as I liked another book they wrote together. Now I’m worried! I guess I’ll just go into it with low expectations. Thanks for laying it all out there for us!

Yeah, don’t take my word as gospel. You know me, I’m pretty sensitive on things that others don’t even notice. I hope you enjoy it more than me! Going in with low expectations is probably the right idea! 🙂
