Blurb:Every secret has a price.
It’s a truth that Angel knows too well. Since the hellhounds and infected started to roam, Angel has guarded her secret carefully. But, she’s growing weaker by the day and needs help. In this new plague-ravaged world, the weak don’t survive long, and the useless are quickly abandoned. That’s why Angel’s secret needs to stay secret. If anyone found out about the baby she carried, they’d ditch her in a heartbeat to save themselves.
To make herself an asset, she offers her services as a relationship expert to one of the dark fey, who rose with the hellhounds, in exchange for food. Shax is eager to win over Hannah, and if Angel can help make that happen, just maybe she won’t be kicked out when she has the baby.
Falling for her "client" was never in her plans.
4.5 stars — Oh, look at that. I started it at bedtime and stayed up until after 3am finishing it. Damn this series is addicting. I’m sad I’m all caught up now.
I loved that this one gave us yet again a different kind of heroine, looking for different things. It was so refreshing that Angel wasn’t clouded by fear of the fae, but actually understood their importance and could look back on their appearance to see their kindness (and hotness). She was also kind of sex positive…it was refreshing that she was all in for the loving, just felt like she couldn’t have it because of the secret she was protecting.
And OMG, Angel was fucking hilarious. I loved how (perhaps because of the hormones), she could see the lighter side of things in such a grim world. And she could be fierce too, though her mouth mostly just got her into trouble.
Shax was as adorable as I’d expected, but also more fierce than I’d expected. Dude has a serious jealous/possessive side! But I guess I could kind of see how it would stem from insecurity, since he was having problems with his love life.
I adored the romance between Angel and Shax, even though it was mired in misunderstandings/miscommunication, which is usually not my favourite. But they had great chemistry with one another, and when they finally figured things out, I just melted.
Parts of the plot completely caught me off guard! I did not expect the roommates situation, and while their entitled attitude was somewhat realistic, at times I felt like it was also over the top. Or else I just didn’t get to see more of the good people. I LOVED Garrett though. He was a fun addition, and I’m kind of bummed that we won’t get to see his (or Ryan’s) love story as a book, since, you know, no female fae.
This one also let us in on the lives of our previous couples, which was delightful. They still make me laugh. And OMG, there are so many little background plots that have me so intrigued! I can’t wait for more books to find out what is happening. I need them, like, NOW.
So yeah. Stupidly addicting series, filled with laughs and action and swooniness. And I think this is my favourite so far!
This is such a fun review! It makes me want to read it. It seems like it has everything I love in a book, but I don’t know that I could do the fantasy aspect. Great review, though!
