Blurb:

"Oh my god. Who is that?"I get asked this question a lot."Oh him?" I reply. "That's just Ian."

Just Ian is the biggest understatement of the century.Just the Mona Lisa. Just the Taj Mahal. Just Ian, with his boring ol' washboard abs and dime-a-dozen dimpled smile.

Just Ian is... just my best friend.

We're extremely close, stuck so deep inside a Jim-and-Pam-style friendzone everyone at works assumes we're a couple - that is until one day, word spreads through the teacher's lounge that he's single. Fair game. Suddenly, it's open season on Ian.

He should be reveling in all the newfound attention, but to our mutual surprise, the only attention he seems to want is mine.

He's turning our formerly innocent nightly chats into x-rated phone calls. Our playful banter sports a new, dangerous edge.

I want to assume he's playing a prank on me, just pushing my buttons like always - but when Ian lifts me onto the desk in my classroom and slides his hands up my skirt, he doesn't leave a lot of room for confusion.

I'm a little scared of things going south, of losing my best friend because I can't keep my hands to myself. So, I'm just going to back away and not return this earth-shattering kiss - oh who am I kidding?!

Goodbye Ian, ol' buddy, ol' pal!

Helloooo mister not so nice guy.

My Review:

4.5 stars — My Mom and I started this book months ago on a road trip and just finally got to finishing it, and we laughed and laughed and laughed!

As always, the narrators were fucking fantastic.  They really bring the characters to life, and I adore the way they portrayed Sam and Ian.  Ms. Christian as Sam in particular was just perfection — she really knows how to bring forth her neurosis, and yet still make her endearing.

I will admit that Sam drove me a bit nuts at parts.  It was so hard to see her self-sabotaging.  Probably the only reason I’m not rating this higher is that I don’t feel like Sam really grew in this book.  She might have accepted Ian’s love in the end, but I felt like she didn’t understand it…she didn’t give herself enough credit.

But OMFG, she was HILARIOUS.  Her daydreams and inner thoughts had my mom and I both snickering out loud.  And Ian was just the perfect counterpart for her.  Not only because he was so much calmer and more logical, but he understood her sense of humour and they just bantered back and forth like champs.

Honestly, that was my favourite part of their relationship.  Their friendship was visceral for me.  All their inner jokes, their routines, their comfort with one another just leapt out of the speakers (I was gonna say off the page, but since I listened…).  But it wasn’t just the friendship, their chemistry when things progressed was hot…like, awkward listening to steamy sex scenes in the car with your Mom hot.  Like, blushing hot.  And as is my favourite, they still had fun during some of those scenes.  They still had moments where they made me laugh.  They still felt like them…just them++.

I honestly found the plot after they kissed went in places I didn’t expect, and their relationship progressed in ways that surprised me.  Not in a bad way, just kind of in a non-cliche way.  I appreciated that.

I absolutely adore Ms. Grey’s humour, it just clicks with mine (obviously).  And while it shines on its own, I find that it marries perfectly when paired with great narrators, so I LOVE listening to her books.  This one didn’t disappoint, and I can’t wait to start my next one.
