What a great follow up! While its clear that they have very real feelings for each other, in the beginning of this installment they struggle a bit with how to balance their feelings and what to do about everyone that wants them dead. Its just a little bit though, it was a nice little bump in the road but defenitely needed I think for the evolvement of their relationship. Once it’s clear they have a solid foundation, the rest of the world seems hell bent on tearing them apart for their past action like when she murdered the emperor and ya know, Kaim being a hired assassin and all. They have to fight against nearly every race in the empire including their own who are trying to kill them.
Between Kaim’s growing powers, the suspicions of his origins and the origin of Amali’s mysterious birthmark we have lots of substance in this second book. The world building is still evolving with their travels and the new people and creatures that appear. Second books seem to always be my favorite and I’m so glad this is a finished series. I have already started the last one and can’t wait to see how their story ends.
