Blurb:

They took my world from me.
It wasn't much of a world to begin with, but the forest village where I was born and raised is everything to me.
They took me away from there, wrapped me in silks, and pierced my flesh with their glittering trinkets.
They made me an object of desire, to be given to a man who has terrorized and subjugated my people.
He thinks he can defy the gods, but I have other ideas.
I don't care what happens to me anymore. Nobody's going to save me.
I just want to make him pay.

My Review:

This book is fantastic. I loved the world building, this world really came to life for me. It was dark, bloody, action packed and filled with court intrigue. The ruthlessness of Kaim was apparent from the beginning and I loved the foreshadowing of his heritiage. His powers at first seemed lame but when woven with the story they became very important to the plot. His evolvement as a cold killer to someone who started to care about someone other than himself was well written.

Amali seemed both badass and innocent. Her kidnapping and conditioning seemed very intricate yet is wasn’t delved into too deeply but more mentioned in passing in the beginning and throughout the book to reference the hardships she endured. And her actions in the beginning really show how determined and vengeful she can be. One of the coolest things about this story is how directly their actions have on the rest of the empire. The ripples are large and roll through the country quickly. The pacing of this story was pretty fast and it worked well with the romance. It didn’t feel rushed though, it felt very intense and gradual. The attraction was nearly instantaneous and they seemed to fight it a bit before succumbing to it. And when they do, boy oh boy it is worth it!

The ending was simply outstanding. It seemed a bit over the top but I think it was needed to showcase how much Kaim really cared for Amali.
