Blurb:

I crashed my shitty yellow VW Beetle into Calix’s Aston Martin. To be fair, he deserved it. But Calix and his friends, Barron and Raz, they don’t see it that way.
Not that it matters. They’ve bullied me for years, and I’ve never known why. At least today, they have something real to be pissed about. All of which would be fine, if today was a normal day. But it’s not. It’s far from normal. My mantra has always been: this too, shall pass.
But not today. Not the worst day of my life. Hot bullies, busted cars, and pain.
Somebody kill me now.

My Review:

Favorite Quotes:

Perspective is important, isn’t it? Something that seems so horrible one minute, is like a drop in the ocean the next.

That’s the shit I need to stop doing, letting other’s actions influence my own happiness. I am the source of my happiness. I must also remember that I am the designer of my own catastrophe.

This book had a slow start but ended fantastically. I admit I wasn’t really feeling Karma, she was a bit of a asshole while trying to disguise herself as a victim. I really enjoyed all the different scenarios that she went through. The pacing of the story was such that the days didn’t feel tired or repetitive. There were a lot of intense emotional moments between all each of the boys and herself. Which was good but what really put it over the top is that Karma’s family and friends weren’t left out. A lot of RH tend to leave out the family aspect and I think that’s a real shame as it always adds a different kind of love and layer to the story. It had so many layers, I couldn’t possibly name them all but I’m gonna give it a go anyway!

Balance: it took a while for Karma to figure this one out, and me as well if I’m being honest.
Sacrifice: You don’t get your cake and are able to eat it too.
Friendship: She wasn’t a very good friend to begin with
Selflessness: This one was super hard for her but when she realized the kind of person she was, it was beautiful to see the want to change in her.
Family: She took them for granted and it showed. I loved how flawed Karma was, imperfect and just kinda floating around not knowing what she needed to do.
Romance: I don’t even know how this was done with everything else thrown in but hot damn it was good.
Intimacy: Oh god the intimacy, and I’m not talking sex you guys, even though there was a good deal of that as well. I’m talking when Calix asked Karma to get lost with him. And when Raz and Karma were skinny dipping and he told her he loved her enough to wait. And when Barron took her to the butterfly cave, kissed her and then walked away.
Tragedy: There is so much tragedy in this with Pearl and Erina. This one really got me. These girls were so bitter and hurt and lost.
Bullying: So this one is weird because it seems that Karma was the bullied and the boys were the bullies. But in a way, it looks like everyone had been bullied and they were all just passing on that hurt to someone else in an effort to feel better. It was tragic and relatable all at once.
Look, this book was just about the closest thing to perfection I’ve read since A Curse So Dark and Lonely.
Honestly, I’m a bit on the fence with all of C.M.’s books but now I want to go back and re-read some of the ones I DNF’d just to see if I was missing something.
