Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if youre feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 2121 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  These first few are going to be super easy, b/c when I first got my Kindle I went crazy with free books.

When the Devil Whistles by Rick Acker — I’m going to call this edition the “I don’t know why I didn’t notice all the Christian Fiction” Down the TBR Hole. Not only Christian Fiction, but crime/mystery, which isn’t my go to.

Verdict: Goes

The Adventures of Whatley Tupper by Rudolf Kerkhoven & Daniel Pitts — A choose your own adventure novel…could be fun, but I wasn’t grabbed by the blurb this time around.

Verdict: Goes

In the Belly of Jonah (Liv Bergen Mystery #1) by Sandra Brannan — This is the first line of the blurb: “In the Belly of Jonah is a fast-paced mystery with a likable protagonist and an intricately woven narrative brimming with bizarre yet believable twists.” If you have to explain that the protagonist is likable, I’m out.

Verdict: Goes

Lot’s Return to Sodom (Liv Bergen Mystery #2) by Sandra Brannan — Yup, apparently I got book 2 too..

Verdict: Goes

They Almost Always Come Home by Cynthia Ruchti — Oh look, another Christian Fiction.

Verdict: Goes

The Ex-Boyfriend’s Handbook (Ed & Dan #1) by Matt Dunn — Ehhhh…something about the blurb rubs me the wrong way, though it could do it justice. But I’m just not that interested.

Verdict: Goes

The Making of Legend (Cerebral Network #1) by Richard Barrs — I don’t think I made it to the bottom of the blurb before losing interest.

Verdict: Goes

Faustine (Bonfire Chronicles #1) by Imogen Rose — This is the kind of book I would have enjoyed back when I bought it in 2011, but now it just doesn’t stand out. I have too many other books I’m more interested in.

Verdict: Goes

The Color of Heaven (The Color of Heaven #1) by Julianne MacLean — Aaaaannnnd another Christian Fiction.

Verdict: Goes

The Island of Ted by Jason Cunningham — And one more Christian Fiction!

Verdict: Goes

  1. Oh, wow. Yeah. These all need to go! I totally get what you’re saying about when you first got a Kindle and free books. It was pretty scary for me, too. I actually went through my Kindle a year or two ago and deleted off anything I knew I wouldn’t read. I did the same thing with my GR TBR. It’s now actually mostly books that haven’t released yet by authors I love with a handful of books that have released and I want to read (like new to me authors, etc). Doing all that took A LOT of time, but it was so freeing. I should actually go through my Kindle again soon and see if there are more books I can get rid of. Anyways. I hope getting rid of these brought you joy.

    • YES!!! It feels so good!! I have some hoarding tendencies (not harmful, but I do have a hard time letting go of things), so having this meme helps keep me doing it. At the moment it isn’t stressful, but I have a feeling it’s going to start getting harder soon.

I understand the free books when you first got your kindle. I have so many on there….that’s my next goal once I finish goodreads 😉
