Blurb:

All Suzanne St. Michelle wants is an over-the-top, eggnog-induced holiday with her best friend in Credence, Colorado. But when her hoity-toity parents insist she come home for Christmas in New York, she blurts out that her sexy landlord is actually her boyfriend and she can’t leave him—Joshy loves Christmas. The more twinkle lights the better.

Rancher Joshua Grady does not love Christmas. Or company, or chatty women. Unfortunately for him, the chattiest woman ever has rented the cottage on his ranch, invited her rich, art-scene parents, and now insists he play “fake rancher boyfriend” in a production of the Hokiest Christmas Ever. And somehow…she gets him to agree.

Apparently, he’ll do anything to get his quiet life back. At least there’s mistletoe every two feet—and kissing Suzy is surprisingly easy. But in the midst of acres of tinsel, far too many tacky Christmas sweaters, and a tree that can be seen from space, he’s starting to want what he lost when he was a kid—a family. Too bad it’s with a woman heading back to New York before the ball drops…

My Review:

3.5 stars — I really enjoyed this one, but I also found it a bit long and thus found my mind wandering.  Course, when you’re literally trying to read *on* Christmas, sometimes it’s hard to get sucked in, you know?

Suzanne was a bit hard to get to know initially, but I loved her sass and her childlike glee with all things Christmas.  And her verbal diarrhea was kinda hilarious at times too.  The art stuff was a both confusing and fascinating.  I loved learning about the world of legal forgeries, I never even thought of that!  But I found the muse stuff kind of above my head.  I’m not a creative type, so I honestly find the whole muse thing super weird and hard to imagine.  I did feel for her struggle to find herself after so many years, and her niche…especially dealing with her unique mother.

Grady surprised me sometimes.  I didn’t think he was going to be a favourite of mine, but he had these moments where he actually let his personality come through and he was kind of amusing himself.  It was hard to watch him close himself off, but it was pretty satisfying when the few hits over the head finally got through his thick skull.

They had pretty solid chemistry with one another, even if it was contentious at times.  I appreciated that neither one of them wanted the relationship to start with, but couldn’t deny the attraction.  The love story part ended up being pretty cute in the end.

I was surprised by the side story with Suzanne’s parents — it dragged on longer than I thought it would, I assumed it would just be a ploy to begin the fake dating.  But it was kind of a fun side story looking at what can happen in a marriage.

All in all I definitely enjoyed this one, but I think I would have enjoyed it even more if it had been tightened up in a few places and cut a bit shorter.
