Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1980 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
It’s the last HARLEQUIN week!! I’ve bought some Harlequins from Amazon of course, but honestly? I’ve gotten a lot more of them from the Harlequin website. When I first got my Kindle, Harlequins were the majority of what I read — I had yet to discover the world of Indie authors. So I bought quite a few ebooks. And didn’t get to them. So I really need to cull the pile. Especially because I am an entirely different person than I was 9 years ago, and I know some of these just aren’t going to work for me anymore. BUT, I have great nostalgia for my Harlequin reading days, so I predict this is going to be hard.
A SEAL’s Seduction (Uniformly Hot SEALs #1) by Tawny Weber — OK, but not wow.
Verdict: Goes
Under Wraps (Lose Yourself #3) by Joanne Rock — I don’t know, I give Christmas books more leeway, but this one just isn’t grabbing me.
Verdict: Goes
The Night of the Wedding by Kathryn Ross — I’m kinda tempted by this one, but I know these Presents ones tend to be more on the line for me nowadays.
Verdict: Goes
Jane Porter’s Princess Brides Bundle (Princess Brides #1-3) by Jane Porter — I read the first one in this bundle and apparently enjoyed it, so now I admit I’m just too curious to let it go. 😛
Verdict: Stays
One Tiny Miracle… by Carol Marinelli — Now this author I remember being one of my faves…but according to Goodreads I have more mixed feelings. So I’ll let this go.
Verdict: Goes
Facing Up to Fatherhood by Miranda Lee — OK, I sort of see what I was drawn to, but I don’t think this is a must.
Verdict: Goes
At Her Boss’s Bidding (Secret Passions #3) by Miranda Lee — OK, I used to love these makeover stories…but I see it with a different lens now, and so it’d have to be done in a specific way for me to enjoy it the same.
Verdict: Goes
Northern Escape (Alaskan Heat #3) by Jennifer LaBrecque — I actually just read a short story set in Good Riddance, and so now I need to read more of these.
Verdict: Stays
Thrill Me by Leslie Kelly — Apparently this one isn’t available anymore! This one just doesn’t grab me.
Verdict: Goes
Burning Ambition (Texas Firefighters/Island Fire #4) by Amy Knupp — I have a bunch of books from this series from my paperback reading days, so I’m keeping this one for now. Plus kittens!
Verdict: Stays
Mail-Order Cinderella (Fortune’s Children: The Grooms #2) by Kathryn Jensen — Eh.
Verdict: Goes
His Hot Number by Shannon Hollis — Meh.
Verdict: Goes
I’ll Be Yours for Christmas by Samantha Hunter — I’m on the fence with this one. But since I’m being more lenient with Christmas, I’m gonna keep for now.
Verdict: Stays
The Italian’s Inexperienced Mistress by Lynne Graham — I was on the fence because this was an author I remember enjoying, but the blurb was…iffy. BUT then I saw a review that said this one should be titled “The one with the diva dog at doggy daycare” and I was sold into giving it a try!
Verdict: Stays
Somewhere in Texas (The Redfish Chronicles #3) by Eve Gaddy — Eh, okay but not wow.
Verdict: Goes
Taming the Texas Playboy by Crystal Green — Eh.
Verdict: Goes
The Mommy Miracle by Lilian Darcy — Eh…I could see why I nabbed it, but ruthless.
Verdict: Goes
Light This Candle by Cindy Dees — I love this author, but I have a feeling this one is going to have more feels than I need.
Verdict: Goes
Behind Enemy Lines (Charlie Squad #1) by Cindy Dees — This book and the next are part of a series that eventually had a spin off that I was loving…and I have a few others in this series in paperback. I do eventually want to get back to this. Theoretically..
Verdict: Stays
Her Secret Agent Man (Charlie Squad #4) by Cindy Dees — See above.
Verdict: Stays
The Wedding Dress Diaries (The Wedding Season #0.5) by Aimee Carson — Meh.
Verdict: Goes
Underneath It All (Million Dollar Secrets #2) by Lori Borrill — I remember reading this series, but I don’t feel compelled to go back to it.
Verdict: Goes
Picture of Innocence (Italian Temptation! #1) by Jacqueline Baird — Meh.
Verdict: Goes
A Passionate Surrender (Dimitriades #1) by Helen Bianchin — Oh yeah, no way do I have the patience for this now.
Verdict: Goes
First Time Lucky? (Just a Fling? #1) by Natalie Anderson — This is an author I remember loving, but the reviews seem very mixed, so I’ll take a pass.
Every time I see you dump a bunch of Harlequins in these post, I feel relief. I know it’s not my TBR, but the amount of books you’ve let go has to be a weight lifted. I know I told you I’ve done this before, where I’ve dumped a bunch off my TBR. You’re making me want to go through my Kindle and do it again.
