Bought: one house, one wife!

It amazed Ophelia that Lysander Metaxis -- a Greek billionaire notorious for his harem of adoring women -- wanted to marry her, a humble gardener with a grumbling old manor house and debts up to her ears.

But soon she realized Lysander didn't want her- he wanted her property and her body.

But marry him she would, because she had no choice if she wanted to keep what she cherished most. And disobedient she would be, because her new husband had no intention of loving her...

My Review:

3 stars — Womp womp.  Some good stuff, but a LOT of toxicity that I just can’t not notice, you know?

Ophelia had her moments of being strong and challenging — her attempt to foil Lysander with the interview for example made me laugh.  And at least she wasn’t too ashamed of her own sexuality…kind of a happy medium.

Lysander was a dick.  I mean, he had good moments, but in general he was a dick.  They call them arrogant in these books, I call them assholes.  It’s the typical guy bullshit with references to the way a woman dresses, whether they wear makeup, etc.  And then when Ophelia confides in him about a teenage boy who told lies about her, he basically made a boys will be boys excuse.  Gross.  Don’t get me wrong, he wasn’t like this the whole book, but I just have a low tolerance these days.

And yet, I feel like I’m going to reread the rest of the series.  They’re fast, they’re kinda mindless, and then I can confidently give the books away and get them off my shelves.

From the moment he sees Abbey at a charity fashion show, Russian tycoon Nikolai Arlov wants every inch of that curvy, creamy body. When she refuses him, he mercilessly switches tactics, aiming straight for her vulnerable heart....

With her family's business in serious trouble, Abbey knows Nikolai's money is their only hope. She submits to his lethal brand of seduction and blackmail--ready and willing to do anything he desires. Only, Nikolai has no idea his reluctant mistress is...a virgin.

My Review:

2.5 stars — Yeah, these books are worse than the other Lynne Graham series I read.  Good thing I reread so I can get rid of them!

I think I was least looking forward to this one, so I’m guessing I only kept it to keep the series.  Abbey was frustrating and not very likeable.  Usually I have more problems with the heroes, but in this one it was all heroine.  She was kind of holier than thou, a bit girl/slut shaming, and I seriously LOATHED the way she treated Nikolai after losing her virginity.  She lost all favour and never really got it back.

Nikolai wasn’t as bad in comparison — still an arrogant dick, but it was less in your face I guess.  Plus, the kitty and the dolls…adorable and smart.

So yeah.  Glad I’m on to the last one, it was the one I think I remember liking the most.  Hopefully I’m not too disappointed.

Leandro Carrera Marquez, Duque de Sandoval, was as aristocratic, proud and arrogant as his name…and darkly handsome in an impossible, breathtaking way. What would this billionaire Spanish banker want with a struggling, impoverished waitress like Molly?

But Leandro did want Molly—and he took her, accidentally making her pregnant with his child. In Leandro's traditional world, there was only one option—marry the mother of his heir. After all, none of his noble ancestors had actually married for love….

My Review:

3.5 stars — What is it about the last book in a trilogy of standalones that always seem to be the best of the bunch?  I mean, it wasn’t perfect by any means, but definitely captured my attention more.

Molly had some great qualities, and some annoying ones.  In general she wasn’t as ashamed of her sexual attraction, though she did throw in that she was a slut for sleeping with Leandro the night she met him…but honestly?  It felt a bit half-hearted, like the author thought that’s what readers would want.  Nope, I could do without that.  I appreciated that she was pretty strong in her convictions, and she really thought through her choices.

And Leandro was better than most of the arrogant assholes in Presents books…  He was definitely sure of himself, but at least he didn’t treat women too terribly badly before Molly.  I felt a bit of his confusion and unwillingness to put himself out there after his first marriage (which was a twist I wholeheartedly did NOT remember from the first read).  And while he was a total jerk about holding himself back from Molly and not talking, at least when he got a second shot he went for it….

So yeah.  I think that’s enough Ms. Graham books though.  They all start to run together.  Even all the heroes look exactly the same.  I don’t mind a formula, but it depends on how strictly they follow it.
