Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if youre feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1808 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

A Certain Slant of Light (Light #1) by Laura Whitcomb — Meh, not intrigued enough.

Verdict: Goes

Unearthly (Unearthly #1) by Cynthia Hand — Ah yes, the angel craze. I really enjoyed the angel craze…and I at least remember this book being on my TBR. Hmm…good reviews from friends. OK, it stays for this round.

Verdict: Stays

Perfect Escape by Jennifer Brown — This was actually potentially on my list as a summer read for Summer of Love. I don’t know if I’ll get to it, but I’m curious about the mental health rep.

Verdict: Stays

In the Stillness by Andrea Randall — Lots of great reviews, but I’m picky about my raw books, and I’m not sure enough interests me about this one to go through the pain.

Verdict: Goes

Here Without You (Between the Lines #4) by Tammara Webber — OK, here’s the thing. I’d always intended to finish this series, but I just don’t ever seem to feel compelled to pick this one up. I really enjoyed book 3, and as far as I remember it felt complete to me. And I know I’d have to reread at least book 3 in order to get to this, and I just know that’s never going to happen. *sigh* So I’m going to be honest with myself and let it go.

Verdict: Goes

Rematch (Vortex #1) by Janine Caldwell — Meh. If I didn’t have 1800+ books on my TBR, I might have considered it.

Verdict: Goes

Haven from the Storm (Storms of Life #1) by Sarah Dosher — Meh.

Verdict: Goes

Soul Survivor (Hybrid Chronicles #1) by Michelle Nicole (now Michelle N. Files) — Again, if I didn’t have so many books on my TBR, I might have looked more closely…then again, it’s supposed to be a series, and 8 years later nothing…so….

Verdict: Goes

No and Me by Delphine de Vigan — I’m still curious.

Verdict: Stays

Neverend (The Noctalis Chronicles #4) by Chelsea M. Cameron — I’m going to finish this series if it kills me. Or at least I’m going to reread book 2 and decide if I want to continue. I reread the first book last year, and while I didn’t enjoy it *as* much, I still intend to keep going. So this stays for now.

Verdict: Stays

  1. I read Here Without You. I don’t remember it. Haha. I binged that series when I read it. I can see why you wouldn’t go back. It would be hard to do without rereading.
