Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if youre feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1757 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

Double Time (Sinners on Tour #5) by Olivia Cunning — Already decided to keep this series, so definitely stays.

Verdict: Stays

The Painting of Porcupine City (Mateo #1) by Ben Monopoli — See, so I’ve enjoyed books by this author before. And this one could be really great too. But I just keep passing over it. Maybe my brain is telling me something.

Verdict: Goes

Kissed by Moonlight by Lucy Lambert — Honestly, I didn’t even read the blurb. It’s no longer on Amazon, and the cumulative rating is abysmal, and that’s enough.

Verdict: Goes

A Hidden Fire (Elemental Mysteries #1) by Elizabeth Hunter — I will admit, the blurb doesn’t completely suck me in, but I’ve heard GREAT things about this series, so it stays for now.

Verdict: Stays

A Thread of Magic (Elgean Chronicles #0.5) by Crista McHugh — Honestly? I thought I read this. Maybe I did and just didn’t mark it read. I’m keeping it either way, even though this series will probably never be added to.

Verdict: Stays

The Off Season (Dairy Queen #2) by Catherine Gilbert Murdock — I remember really enjoying the first one, so this stays for now.

Verdict: Stays

Surrendering to Us (Surrender Saga #2) by Chelsea M. Cameron — I remember really enjoying the first book, but not clamouring for more. And so I think I’m going to let go of this one and the next 2 in this series. They could be great, but I’m not feeling FOMO letting them go.

Verdict: Goes

This Sky by Autumn Doughton — I’ve read and enjoyed a few books by this author, so this one stays for now.

Verdict: Stays

Sensual Danger (Venice Vampyr #4) by Tina Folsom — I didn’t even read the blurb, I got rid of the first 3 in one of my first Down the TBR Hole’s, and guess I just didn’t realize I had another one.

Verdict: Goes

Coming Home by Priscilla Glenn — I’ve really enjoyed the other two books I’ve read by this author, so this one stays for now.

Verdict: Stays

  1. I love all the Elizabeth Hunter books. I always wanted to read some of the Olivia Cunning books but haven’t managed it yet.
