Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if youre feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1736 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

Toxic (Ruin #2) by Rachel Van Dyken — And subsequently Fearless and Shame. My initial instinct was to keep since I loved the first book. Then I wondered if 2021 Lenore would enjoy them the same and I wavered. THEN I read some reviews from a fellow blogger, and fuck it…I’m going to keep them all for now. So that’s 3 for stay.

Verdict: Stays

The Seaside Series Boxed Set (Seaside #1-3.5) by Rachel Van Dyken — I’ve read a book in the spin off series, and while this author can be hit or miss with me, I’m keeping this for now — which, means I’m keeping 6 books on my Goodreads TBR (box set, each of the 4 books, and I also have book 4 in this series).

Verdict: Stays

Here (Here Trilogy #1) by Ella James — A trilogy with no 3rd book written 6+ years later? I’m not even reading the blurb…

Verdict: Goes

Girl of Lies (Rachel’s Peril #1, Thompson Sisters #5) by Charles Sheehan-Miles — I’m not sure how different these ones will be from the original Thompson Sisters books, but I’m not ready to let them go yet. And since I’ve got this box set of the Rachel’s Peril Trilogy, it counts for keeping 4 books in Goodreads (3 books plus the box set).

Verdict: Stays

Pretty Girl-13 by Liz Coley — It’s not really my genre, and I have a feeling I just won’t ever get to it.

Verdict: Goes

Life After by P.A. Warren — I think I did start this one, as it was a fellow fan of a fave author, but DNF’d…but since it’s so long ago, I’m just going to delete it from my TBR.

Verdict: Goes

T is For… (Grover Beach Team #3) by Anna Katmore — I still want to get back to this series, so this stays as well as Dating Trouble and The Trouble with Dating Sue.

Verdict: Stays

Lover Unbound (Black Dagger Brotherhood #5) by J.R. Ward — For some reason (probably because they went on sale and the series is so popular), I have this book and the next, Lover Avenged, but not the first one. I don’t know if I’ll like it, but at least I can try it from the library. So I’m keeping them both for now until I give it a try…cause they’re not cheap, and what if I love them?

Verdict: Stays

UnWritten by Chelsea M. Cameron — It sounds okay, but reviews from friends aren’t great, so I’ll let it go.

Verdict: Goes

Golden Hour (Crescent City #1) by Steph Campbell & Liz Reinhardt — Could be good, but I’m not feeling sucked in.

Verdict: Goes

  1. THANK GOODNESS YOU KEPT TOXIC SO I DIDN’T HAVE TO YELL AT YOU! Haha. I haven’t read that other series of hers, though. Her books are kind of hit and miss for me. I also dumped UnWritten at one point. I think I got it from a Bookworm Box or something. I’ve read one of her other books that I didn’t like and based on the reviews I didn’t think it was for me either. Great job pairing it down once again.
