Blurb:

I never meant to say a word, not one single word.

But I did.

And now, because of my blog, everyone knows that Ice Knights hockey star Ian Petrov’s best friend and fellow player is actually his half brother—hello, hockey Hall of Famer dad who couldn’t keep his jeans zipped.

That wouldn’t be such a big deal if Ian knew. He didn’t, and boy howdy is he pissed. And who is he most mad at? Oh sure, he’s upset with his dad and former best friend/brother from another mother, but most of his ire is with me. It’s definitely a case of hating the messenger.

And what could make it worse? How about the two of us being trapped together in a remote cabin after a massive blizzard. Neither of us can leave. Just us, the snow, his resentment, and OMG sexual tension so thick it would take a snowplow to break through it.

I’ve got to get out of here before I do something even dumber than I’ve already done and kiss the sexy, snarly grump with his misplaced anger and perfect pecs. That would be the worst, the absolute worst. That’s why I’m not going to do it. Nope. Really. So why can’t I stop imagining what it would be like?

My Review:

2.5 stars — Well, that was a bit of a disappointment.   Honestly, if I wasn’t reading it for a challenge, I might have DNF’d it.  It’s not a bad book, but it is kinda boring, and needless to say I was NOT compelled.

Here’s the thing: Shelby seems like she should be a fucking badass right?  Or maybe really deeply damaged — what with the alcoholism and stuff (not that you need damage to be an alcoholic, but she mentioned damage).  Or maybe I expected to connect with her on the high voice thing (because it’s a curse people).  But she came across so flat.  We didn’t get to learn much of anything about her it seemed — what exactly happened in her past that affected her so much?  I don’t know.  What was she about?  I…don’t know.

And then there’s Ian.  Maybe if he had captured my attention it would have been different, but he was so meh for me too.  I quickly grew tired of his taciturnness (that’s a word right?)…his grunting, his grumpiness, his, well, everything.  At least we got a bit more explanation of why he is the way he is, but apparently I didn’t have patience with him.  I’d have rather read about Alex.

So fine, individually they’re kinda duds.  But if they’d had chemistry, that could have saved it.  But.  They didn’t.  I mean, honestly, all of a sudden they’re fucking at the cabin and I’m like “wait, what?”  Maybe I missed something.  Now, I did feel glimmers here and there, but in general I just didn’t really get what drew them to one another.

I kept wondering if it was my mood or something, but nothing changed.  It just wasn’t for me.  I needed more in almost every aspect of the story.  Too bad, I really enjoyed the first two books.

COYER Scavenger Hunt #4: Read a book with a cartoonish cover.
