Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1677 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
Game On (Game On #1) by Kyra Lennon — Well, for starters I can’t find the books on Amazon anymore. I had a Facebook rant about wanting to know if authors pull their books, just so I don’t have to put in the work to look for them. So that’s already putting me off giving these a shot, even though I apparently have the second book too. But this one? This blurb does not sound like a me book. So I’m letting this, and the next one go.
Verdict: Goes
Being Neighborly by Carey Heywood — I love this author, but I’m not feeling this novella. I think I would only end up keeping it because I love her, not because I’m interested, and I’m trying to be better about that.
Verdict: Goes
Warm Bodies (Warm Bodies #1) by Isaac Marion — I watched the movie and enjoyed it…but, I already watched the movie. I just have too many books I want to read to keep around something I probably won’t get to.
Verdict: Goes
Always (Always & Forever #1) by Kindle Alexander — Hmmm…read some spoilers (I know, *slaps hand*) and I just don’t think I want that.
Verdict: Goes
Stinger by Mia Sheridan — Hmmm…I enjoy Ms. Sheridan in general, and I will take each book on its own, but I don’t think I’m that interested in *this* one.
Verdict: Goes
Strikers (Strikers #1) by Ann Christy — Yeah, I’m not feeling it.
Verdict: Goes
Elemental Rush (Elemental #1) by Elana Johnson — This is the second instance of an author, who is still publishing books, pulling other books but not confirming it anywhere. Maybe it’s under another pen name, who knows…but for me, that means I’m not investing in a series, so I didn’t even read the blurb.
Verdict: Goes
Retribution (Lost Souls #1) by Amy Thompson — Yeah, no.
Verdict: Goes
The Sexiest Man Alive (Life and Love on the Lam #4) by Juliet Rosetti — Oh! Apparently all 4 books in this series are of the same MCs. Well, I’m not interested enough to buy 3 other books, especially at traditional publisher prices.
Verdict: Goes
Sky Hunter (The Targon Tales #0) by Chris Reher — I read a short story by this author set in this world in The Telepath Chronicles anthology (Little Blue), and really really enjoyed it. So I’ve been collecting books in this series…definitely still want to check them out, so this and books 1 & 2 stay.
This was a good dump week! Only one to keep!
I think I dumped Stinger myself. I am a fan of Archer’s Voice, but I haven’t connected to another book by her in the same way. I have most of the books in that series, but after trying a couple more I marked them as read on my Kindle and forgot about them.
I read the two Leo books first, and really enjoyed them. I enjoyed Archer’s Voice as well, but I listened, and I think I would have enjoyed it more if I’d read instead…the male narrator was only okay IIRC.
I only read the 1 Leo book. I think that one frustrated me. I can’t remember why.
