Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault. She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE. It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in. I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR). And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE! Poof! JUST DO IT! My internal hoarder is screaming right now.
ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)
As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1657 books on it. No, that’s not a typo. You see why this meme might be good for me. I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.
Where I Belong (Alabama Summer #1) by J. Daniels — I’ve only read one other book by Ms. Daniels, but I really enjoyed it, so this and the next 2 books in this series that I own all stay.
Verdict: Stays
Forbidden Lovers 2 by Various Authors — I probably initially got this one for the Marie Hall story (because Curly Carla enjoys that series), but I’ve since gotten a box set that contains that story, and none of the others interests me. So buh bye!
Verdict: Goes
Poison Study (Poison Study #1, The Chronicles of Ixia #1) by Maria V. Snyder — I think this is one of those that I would have loved way back in my early Kindle days, but I’m not sure I’m as interested now. The reviews sound like the end of the book is lackluster, and I just have too many books to read.
Verdict: Goes
In the Fields by Willow Aster — I’m sure this book is heartwrenching and lovely…and…I’m just not that interested. *sigh* Oh well. Side Note: Deanna, this totally sounds like a book you might enjoy. I was surprised it wasn’t on your TBR!
Verdict: Goes
Written in Red (The Others #1) by Anne Bishop — I…genuinely don’t know what to do with this one. I read some reviews, and I lean towards letting it go. I read others and I kinda want to try the audio (which is at the library). So I think I’ll keep it for now.
Verdict: Stays
Son of War, Daughter of Chaos by Janette Rallison — Meh.
Verdict: Goes
Ex-Factor (Diamond Girls #1) by Elisa Dane — Now titled Crushed (Crushed #1). Yeah, nah.
Verdict: Goes
Unraveling You (Unraveling You #1) by Jessica Sorensen — I was almost turned off by the terrible blurb on Goodreads, but I’m thinking that wasn’t a real blurb. I was wavering until I read “**A novel about Ella and Micha’s daughter and Lila and Ethan’s son from The Secret Series. However, this series can be read on its own.**”. FINE. I’ll keep you. Just in case I finish the secret series and love it and want to give this a try.
Verdict: Stays
The Ready Box Set (Ready #1-3) by J.L. Berg — So, since I enjoyed books 1 and 2, and I got rid of the individual copies of those 2, I’ll be keeping this. Whether I get to book 3? I don’t know. I enjoyed the first 2, so maybe? So this box set, and book 3 stay on my TBR.
Verdict: Stays
Candidate Four (Bidden #1) by Crystal Cierlak — Meh.
We were going to have words if you got rid of that J. Daniels series. It’s one that gets better with each book.
I also dumped In the Fields last year.
Ahhh!! That explains that. đŸ˜‰
And don’t worry, I wouldn’t do that with that series without at least trying it…especially because it sounds like my kind of book *and* your reviews were awesome!
Aw! Thanks! I hope you end up loving them. If not, skip to the last book in the series because that was my favorite.
