Down the TBR Hole — February 4th, 2022

Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1651 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

Truce (Neighbor from Hell #4) by R.L. Mathewson — OK, these ones are tricky. I LOVED the first book way back when, enjoyed the second, but was feeling iffy on the 3rd. But that was almost a decade ago. And yet, I kind of want to try them again to see if I’ve changed, so I guess I’m not ready to let this go yet. So this, and The Game Plan both stay for now. It helps that the audio for the first 3 are included in Audible Plus, so theoretically I could relisten (even though it’s not necessary).

Verdict: Stays

Be with Me (Wait for You #2) by J. Lynn — I better want to keep this, b/c I’ve been collecting the books in this series on sale at Libro.FM recently. I only read the first one, but I enjoyed it enough I want to give these a try. So that makes 4 for stay.

Verdict: Stays

The Ugly Stepsister Strikes Back by Sariah Wilson — Hmmm…I really could go either way on this one. But since I’m not certain, I’m erring on the side of it ruthless.

Verdict: Goes

The Trouble with Faking (The Trouble Series #3) by Rochelle Morgan — I really loved the first book way back when, so this one stays.

Verdict: Stays

Bite Me (Demon Underground #1) by Parker Blue — Meh.

Verdict: Goes

How I Became Lotus Raine…the porn star by Erika Ashby — I saw some quotes from the book, and while it may be about a porn star, and is supposedly about looking past a profession, it sounds like it’s still a wee bit girl/slut shame-y. So it goes.

Verdict: Goes

Tall, Silent & Lethal (Pyte/Sentinel #4) by R.L. Mathewson — Ugh, this series is like that one shirt you just don’t wear anymore in your closet, but because you enjoyed it, you can’t get rid of it. I LOVED book 1. Hated book 2. Meh on 3. I should give up…I know I should. But I CAN’T! I DON’T KNOW WHY! So it stays for now. Again, like the other Mathewson series, the first 3 books are in Audible Plus, so maybe relistening will help? I guess we’ll see.

Verdict: Stays

Kissing Midnight by Laura Bradley Rede — I will admit, I’m a bit intrigued. But I just can’t picture myself picking this one in the future…I see it languishing unread So it goes.

Verdict: Goes

Fragments (Running on Empty #1) by M.R. Field — I still love this cover, and dance!! But I just don’t think I’m interested enough.

Verdict: Goes

Burning by Elana K. Arnold — Meh.

Verdict: Goes

  1. Nice mix of goes and stays. I haven’t read that Sariah Wilson book. I have read a bunch of hers recently, but after that Royal book am thinking I will just continue with her newer releases from now.

    • Probably a good plan. That’s the conclusion I’m coming to with quite a few authors — people improve, and I’m going to take advantage of that!
