Down the TBR Hole — February 11th, 2022

Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1646 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

Love and Decay, Volume 6 (Love and Decay 3 #1-4, Love and Decay #25-28) by Rachel Higginson — Oh, I’m getting back to this (rereading seasons 1 and 2 for Zombie Friday, which I really need to get back to)…and I will get to this damn season finally! So, this whole season and the few episodes I have of Revolution all stay — that’s 20! on my TBR.

Verdict: Stays

Stay (Stay #1) by Emily Goodwin — I think this one was pulled from Amazon, and a big hubbub was made, and I probably got sucked in to the hype. But in truth, I’m not really a dark romance reader…it’d have to be a pretty special case. So I’m fine letting this one go.

Verdict: Goes

The Assassins Series (Nashville Assassins #1-5) by Toni Aleo — I tried the first book, and had strong negative feelings. I’ve since read another short story by Ms. Aleo, and while I enjoy her heroes, it seems I’m not a match for her heroines. Also, the books are LONG (at least the first was, and books 2 and 3 look equally long). I’m fine letting this author go, so that’s 6 books gone.

Verdict: Goes

Playing for Love at Deep Haven by Katy Regnery — Now titled After We Break. I’m just not feeling this one.

Verdict: Goes

A Space Story – The Journal of a Bald Little Alien Named Dean Kilmer (Vol. 1) by Tig Carson — Could be cute, but am I really going to read it? Probably not.

Verdict: Goes

The Silence of Medair (Medair #1) by Andea K. Höst — As I’ve mentioned in a previous DTTH, I’ve only read one book by this author, but it surprised me and was completely unlike what I normally read. This one does sound intriguing, so I think I will keep it…but….

Verdict: Stays

Stained Glass Monsters (Eferum #1) by Andea K. Höst — …I’m less intrigued by this one, so I think I’ll pass on it.

Verdict: Goes

Inspire (The Muse #1) by Cora Carmack — Ends in a cliffhanger, and sequel isn’t written 8 years later? Yeah no.

Verdict: Goes

Hate to Love You by Elise Alden — I have ZERO clue why I got this book…it is anathema to me. So yeah, it goes.

Verdict: Goes

The Story of Awkward by R.K. Ryals — I’ve read one other book by Ms. Ryals that was not what I was expecting, and so I think I’m a bit gun shy. But *4* of my friends gave this 5 stars. So it stays.

Verdict: Stays

  1. I read the third book in that Aleo series. I gave it 3 stars and then DNF’d the 4th book. I don’t blame you for dumping that one.
I haven’t read that Carmack book. It doesn’t surprise me there isn’t a sequel yet. I’m still waiting on one for her college sports romance series. I know she’s had a bunch of health issues with seizures (I think) and stuff. I think she has to write a lot slower now.
Good job cleaning a bunch out this week. I wish I had done this series of posts when I dumped books last year!

    • Yeah, Carmack definitely has some sort of health problems. And I do get that it’s hard to write a book if you’re not feeling inspired, so you need to follow the inspiration. But I’m not going to *start* a potentially never finished series! 😛

I really enjoy these posts. They’re cathartic, they remind me of books I still want to read, and I have a listing of books I used to own and got rid of so I don’t purchase them again. *snort*
