Down the TBR Hole — March 25th, 2022

Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1612 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

Tamed (Tangled #3) by Emma Chase — It’s been a long time since I read Tangled, but I enjoyed it, so I’ll keep this on for now. I also have the short story Holy Frigging Matrimony, so I’ll keep that for now too.

Verdict: Stays

Torn Away by Jennifer Brown — I was torn on this one (*snort*, yes I went there). But I think I only have room in my TBR for a certain number of devastating books, and I have others that I’m more interested in.

Verdict: Goes

Cut & Run (Cut & Run #1) by Madeleine Urban & Abigail Roux — No longer available. I’m not a huge mystery fan, and I probably only got this because it was highly recommended by some peeps. But I’m not feeling especially compelled, especially considering books 1-3 are no longer available as far as I can tell.

Verdict: Goes

Kiss Me Hard Before You Go (Hearts of Haines #1) by Shannon McCrimmon — I still think the cover is adorable, but I’m not especially compelled.

Verdict: Goes

The Song of David (The Law of Moses #2) by Amy Harmon — Oh definitely staying. And since The Smallest Part is loosely related, that one stays too.

Verdict: Stays

Burned (Donovan Circus #2) by Liz Long — Apparently I won the first 2 books, and was only meh on the first one, so I’mma let this go.

Verdict: Goes

Jack and Djinn (The Houri Legends #1) by Jasinda Wilder — Meh.

Verdict: Goes

Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan — I totally thought I was going to keep this one, but I’m not sure I would enjoy the style. There are many other fabulous LGBT books out there that I think I would rather read.

Verdict: Goes

Every Day (Every Day #1) by David Levithan — Hmmm…it has good and bad reviews from friends, and since I’m not personally compelled, I’mma let it go.

Verdict: Goes

Little White Lies (Mimics of Rune #1) by Aimee Laine — I’m a bit intrigued, but not enough.

Verdict: Goes

  1. Tamed was my first Emma Chase book! I enjoyed it. I thought The Song of David was better than The Law of Moses and the way The Smallest Part is related to them was really good. Hard to explain, but I think you will be glad you kept both.
