Down the TBR Hole — April 22nd, 2022

Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1588 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

Five Corners (The Marked Ones #1) by Cathi Shaw — I’m naturally drawn to Canadian authors, but I just don’t feel drawn in enough…and then looking at the reviews for book 2, it sounds like there is a cliffhanger, and no other books in the series have been written, so I’m not investing.

Verdict: Goes

Wander & Roam (Wander #1) by Anna Kyss — Meh. Another one I might have enjoyed back when I got it, but it doesn’t stand out now.

Verdict: Goes

Queen of Someday (Stolen Empire #1) by Sherry D. Ficklin — I think I’m only interested because it was recommended by quite a few people. But…I’m just not that interested. And I have a feeling I’ll keep passing it over. So I’mma let it go (along with the box set, and thus books 2 and 3 — so 4 books gone total).

Verdict: Goes

The Paper Swan by Leylah Attar — This one could be risky, but fuck it…I’m still curious.

Verdict: Stays

Not in the Script (If Only… #3) by Amy Finnegan — I feel like after keeping the previous one, I need this light celebrity YA.

Verdict: Stays

Heart Recaptured (Hades Hangmen #2) by Tillie Cole — I’m a) not an MC book fan. And b) not much of a Tillie Cole fan. So this was already marked on a shelf titled “probably won’t read”, so it’s gone.

Verdict: Goes

The Other Side of Gravity (Oxygen #1) by Shelly Crane — I’m still intrigued, and not just because of that cover.

Verdict: Stays

Stop! by Alison G. Bailey — Now titled Hidden Scars. Not feeling compelled enough.

Verdict: Goes

Modern Monsters by Kelley York — Don’t even need to think about it, it stays.

Verdict: Stays

Bedmates (American Royalty #1) by Nichole Chase — I’m torn on this one. I really enjoyed Ms. Chase’s books a long time ago, but I haven’t read them for a very long time. BUT, I have this one in paperback too, so for now it stays.

Verdict: Stays

  1. I haven’t read any of these. I like a lot of the Tillie Cole books I’ve read, but I did dump a different Hangman book. Not sure that series is for me either. Nice job!
