Down the TBR Hole — April 29th, 2022

Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1579 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

Faster We Burn (Fall and Rise #2) by Chelsea M. Cameron — Almost a year ago I made the decision to keep book 1, but that was before I automatically kept the rest of the series. So I’m not even going to read blurbs, I’m just going to keep this and books 3 and 4 for the time being.

Verdict: Stays

The Five Stages of Andrew Brawley by Shaun David Hutchinson — This was an author recommend, and I’m still intrigued.

Verdict: Stays

Imperfect Chemistry (Imperfect #1) by Mary Frame — This book and author were recommended by QUITE a few people, and I always intended to get to it…I intended it so hard, I have like half of this series already…so here’s hoping it hits for me. As such, I will be keeping 6 books on my TBR (5 individual books, one boxed set).

Verdict: Stays

The Player (The Wedding Pact #2) by Denise Grover Swank — I enjoyed the first book, but when I tried to reread by listening to the audio so I could finally finish the series, I found my tastes had changed…like, a lot. So I’m willing to let this and book 3 go.

Verdict: Goes

The Future Chronicles by Various Authors — In general I like these anthologies of speculative fiction, but I’ve already read a few of the stories, and I think I’m more interested in other ones.

Verdict: Goes

Scenes from the City (Knitting in the City #4.5) by Penny Reid — I know there is another anthology that contains these shorts as well as more, but since I don’t have it yet, I’m keeping this for now.

Verdict: Stays

Whimper by Erin McFadden — I’m not feeling compelled enough.

Verdict: Goes

Warrior Beautiful (Riders of Paradesos #1) by Wendy Knight — That unicorn totally reminds me of the poster I had as a kid (as did most girls in the 80s). I might have been interested, but it’s no longer available and apparently a series…hence I’m out.

Verdict: Goes

Waiting to Fall: Almost Rapunzel by Jolene Betty Perry — While I enjoyed the first one, I’m not sure I’m in the mood for another LDS book.

Verdict: Goes

Roam (Roam #1) by Kimberly Adams — Um, no, I don’t think I would enjoy the age thing and love triangle thing.

Verdict: Goes
