Down the TBR Hole — May 6th, 2022

Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1583 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

Seven Day Fiancé (Love and Games #2) by Rachel Harris — I read the final book first and really enjoyed it. Ms. Harris is a pretty easy author for me. So this and book 1 stay.

Verdict: Stays

Where the Road Takes Me by Jay McLean — I haven’t tried a book by this author yet, but until I do I think I’m going to keep her just in case.

Verdict: Stays

She Dies at the End (November Snow #1) by A.M. Manay — Yup, still intrigued…though the new cover is way better.

Verdict: Stays

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda (Creekwood #1, Simonverse #1) by Becky Albertalli — Usually when I see the movie before the book, I let go of the book…but I think I might still enjoy this one (especially since it’s been a few years since I saw the movie). And since The Upside of Unrequited is in the same universe, I’m keeping it as well.

Verdict: Stays

Surviving Broken (The Mathews Family #4) by Beverly Preston — Meh.

Verdict: Goes

The Artist’s Touch (The Artist’s Touch #1) by S.H. Pratt — I won this book, but I was never that interested…so it’s going.

Verdict: Goes

The Reapers (The Hunted #1) by Ali Winters — I had a lot of friends who really loved this book, but I kinda had a meh read of a wholly different book by this author, and so I have a feeling I’ll keep putting this one off. So it might as well just go officially.

Verdict: Goes

A Shattered Heart (Fractured Lives #2) by Tiffany King — I will probably want to get book 1 before I read this, and then survive the fact that the final book will likely never be written…but saying all that, I’m definitely keeping this. I also discovered just now that I had a second book from a previously kept Jordyn series from this author, so I’m keeping that too (now that I added it to Goodreads…how did that get missed?).

Verdict: Stays

The Bright Effect by Autumn Doughton & Erica Cope — Definitely keeping, and really need to get back to this author (Ms. Doughton) soon.

Verdict: Stays

Right Here Waiting (Ward Sisters #3) by Lucy Gage — Meh.

Verdict: Goes

  1. How have I not forced you to give Jay McLean a try? I liked her book you kept, but her More Than series is still my favorite. That one you kept is actually related to her Kick Push series. Kind of the first book, but not really because it’s different characters.
