Down the TBR Hole — June 3rd, 2022

Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1577 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

Beyond the Stars: A Planet Too Far by Various Authors — I really enjoyed the other anthology that precedes this one, so this one stays too.

Verdict: Stays

The Youth & Young Loves of Oliver Wade by Ben Monopoli — I genuinely couldn’t decide with this one. But since it’s related to another book I let go of in an earlier DTTH, I’m letting this one go too.

Verdict: Goes

Royal Chase (The Royals of Monterra #2) by Sariah Wilson — I enjoyed the first book, but that was 7 years ago now. And I’ve read some other works by Ms. Wilson, and while they’re not bad, they aren’t stand outs. So I’m going to let this and book 3 go.

Verdict: Goes

Sidebarred (The Legal Briefs #3.5) by Emma Chase — Oh heck yes, this and the audio of book 1 are both staying.

Verdict: Stays

Creatura (Creatura #1) by Nely Cab — Another book I got because of friend’s recommendations, but I’m just not that interested…sorry!

Verdict: Goes

The Codex: An Angel’s Guide to Seducing a Human by Joe Duck — You know what? I’m still intrigued.

Verdict: Stays

Play Safe (Make the Play #1) by Amber Garza — Meh.

Verdict: Goes

Veined (Guardian of the Angels #1) by Anyta Sunday — No longer available apparently…and if I hadn’t had the whole trilogy, it would be an easy one to let go of. But it’s one of my former blog co-pilot’s fave series, and I’ve enjoyed Ms. Sunday’s other works (though all M/M contemp), so I’mma give it a try. So 3 for stay.

Verdict: Stays

Kiss the Sky (Calloway Sisters #1, Addicted World #4) by Krista & Becca Ritchie — Oh definitely stays, as well as 3 others in the series I have (in Kindle or audio).

Verdict: Stays

Ginger’s Heart (A Modern Fairytale #3) by Katy Regnery — I have every intention of finishing this “series” as well, just out of curiosity if nothing else. So that’s 2 to stay.

Verdict: Stays

  1. I enjoy some of Sariah Wilson’s books and others are just okay. I didn’t have a great experience with book 1, so I can understand why you would dump #2. But THANK GOODNESS you kept both Chase’s and the Ritchie’s books. I would have to have fought you on dumping those. I listened to book 1 in Chase’s series and loved it and loved the rest of that series.
