Down the TBR Hole — July 15th, 2022

Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1561 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

Heartless (Heartless #1) by Kelly Martin — I’m mildly intrigued, but not enough you know?.

Verdict: Goes

Elsker (The Elsker Saga #1) by S.T. Bende — Saw a review mention slut shaming…I’m out (I was only meh anyways).

Verdict: Goes

Cursed (The Watchers #1) by S.J. West — I’m seriously tempted to keep this for 2 stupid reasons: 1) I won a signed copy of the paperback; 2) I ended up getting the boxed set of this trilogy and the followup series. But you know what? I’m not going to. I have a feeling this is a series I would have enjoyed in early-mid 2010s, but not so much anymore…and that’s okay. I can let it go. So that’s *9* gone. Holy shit.

Verdict: Goes

Pop! (Pop! #1) by V. Kelly — Again, I LOVE this author as a person, but this is not my style. So this and book 2 go.

Verdict: Goes

A Demon Made Me Do It (Demonblood #1) by Penelope King — I will admit, I was a bit tempted because it just sounded different…but I’m trying to be choosy.

Verdict: Goes

Squirrel Bait (Chip’s Dollar Dreadfuls #1) by Chip Davis — While I will admit that it sounds amusing, it’s not really my thing and I really just peer pressure bought it.

Verdict: Goes

Ignite (Legacy #0.75) by Rebecca Yarros — Not even reading the blurb, this was always a series I meant to get back to. So it and book 1 stay.

Verdict: Stays

Blind Landing (Flipped #1) by Carrie Aarons — Huh, I really thought I’d keep this one. I love Olympics, and so many of these sports fascinates me. But I’m just not interested enough, you know?

Verdict: Goes

Drifters’ Alliance (Drifters’ Alliance #1) by Elle Casey — Just realized I read a prequel to this series in an anthology, and it was meh for me, so I’mma let this go.

Verdict: Goes

Dating on the Dork Side by Charity Tahmaseb & Darcy Vance — This could go either way, but since I’m getting rid of everything else, I’mma keep this for now because it sounds fun.

Verdict: Stays

  1. Thank goodness you kept Ignite! It’s a novella, so should be a fairly quick read. I also dumped Drifters Alliance even though I’ve enjoyed some of her other contemporary romances.
