Down the TBR Hole — August 5th, 2022

Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1539 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

Gods and Mortals Anthology by Various Authors — Not as interested as I might have been back when I got it.

Verdict: Goes

Refuge (Relentless #2) by Karen Lynch — I have book 1 too, though originally I think I had it in the anthology I just got rid of up there. I saw the *probable* love interest is an alpha-hole, there may or may not be some slut shaming, and there was a generalization about arab men beating women for interfering, so I’m out.

Verdict: Goes

Turn the World Upside Down by Nyrae Dawn — I’ve actually read this one before it released, but for some reason didn’t write the review…so it definitely stays (and HIGHLY recommend).

Verdict: Stays

It Was Always You by Various Authors — Anthology of M/M stories? Definitely stays.

Verdict: Stays

Happily Evan After (Fall for You #1) by Michelle Irwin — (now by Fleur Smith) This one still sounds cute, I’m in.

Verdict: Stays

Drive Me Crazy (Shaken Dirty #2) by Tracy Wolff — Hmmm…I didn’t think this one would make me waffle, but it has. a) I enjoy a good celebrity story; b) apparently it’s both super steamy and funny dialogue. And since it’s a shorter book, I’ll keep it for now.

Verdict: Stays

Flawed (Blaze of Glory #2) by Cherry Shephard — Well shit, I’m intrigued. I mean, it’s going to be a rough ride, but still…fine, it stays.

Verdict: Stays

Walk on Earth a Stranger (The Gold Seer Trilogy #1) by Rae Carson — Yup, still intrigued.

Verdict: Stays

Summerlypse by Gerardo Delgadillo — I’m waffling on this one a bit, but it’s always good to have another #ownvoices choice up in here.

Verdict: Stays

Possess by Gretchen McNeil — I hate to do this since it was gifted to me, but I’m just not pulled in enough, you know?

Verdict: Goes
