Down the TBR Hole — August 12th, 2022

Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1537 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven — I’m curious enough for this one to stay for now.

Verdict: Stays

Tripping Me Up (Unexpected Love #1) by Amber Garza — Meh.

Verdict: Goes

Unbreakable Love: A Collection of Contemporary Romances by Marie Hall — Eh, I already got rid of 1 of the 3 in a previous DTTH, and I’m not that interested in the rest. So that’s 3 gone (the box set and the remaining 2 books).

Verdict: Goes

Depths of Salvation (Love on the Edge #4) by Molly E. Lee — I remember being fascinated by this series, so I’mma keep it — 6 for keep!

Verdict: Stays

Phantom Embrace (Immortal Guardians #5.5) by Dianne Duvall — Oh definitely stays!.

Verdict: Stays

Fire Away (Line of Fire #1; Somewhere, TX #3) by R.L. Syme — I got this one because I enjoyed a short story in an anthology from this series…but since this is no longer available, I don’t want to get invested and want more.

Verdict: Goes

Before the Wreckage (From the Wreckage #0.5) by Melissa Collins — I have this and book 1, and it could be good…but I’m not feeling especially compelled. So both go.

Verdict: Goes

My Lady Jane (The Lady Janies #1) by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton & Jodi Meadows — Oh definitely keeping this one! And I have My Calamity Jane marked as library wishlist, so keeping that one too.

Verdict: Stays

Falling for Bentley (Falling for Bentley #1) by Shawnte Borris — Could have gone either way, but a few things in the negative reviews have me feeling more meh. So this and book 2 go. I got them because the author was going to be at an event I was attending, so I’m not super attached anyways.

Verdict: Goes

The Game – Kirsten Backhard (The Game #1) by Shawnte Borris — Yeah, even less interested in this one…so it and book 2 go.

Verdict: Goes

Omigosh! I need to do this as well but it’s so daunting, Lenore. SO. DAUNTING! My GR TBR shelf is ridiculous. You’ve seen it, right? I think there’s over 8000 books on it. I’ve tried batch editing to remove titles but it’s not easy. I might give this a go though. 😉 You’ve done so well you’re inspiring me!
