Down the TBR Hole — November 4th, 2022

Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is all Lillian @Mom With a Reading Problem‘s fault.  She started doing this, and I couldn’t help but look at my Kindle, and all the titles that I don’t even remember what they’re about, and I just figured maybe I should start the CLEANSE.  It’s about the only CLEANSE you’ll see me participate in.  I’m going to be focussing entirely on my Kindle book problem at the moment, since it’s the craziest (and it’s what features most prominently in my Goodreads TBR).  And I’ve decided if a book goes, then I’m deleting it from my Kindle cloud library too — GONE!  Poof!  JUST DO IT!  My internal hoarder is screaming right now.

ETA: OK, if I’m truly waffling over one of them, I’m giving you all like a couple days to convince me otherwise before I delete them. So speak now! (This is your fault Ashley)

As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 1508 books on it.  No, that’s not a typo.  You see why this meme might be good for me.  I’ve also decided that if I get rid of the first book in a series, and I have other books in that series, I’m going to get rid of them at the same time instead of waiting until they show up.

#1 Crush (Loose Ends #1) by Kaia Bennett — Could be fine, but I know I’m going to keep a lot this week so I gotta draw a line somewhere.

Verdict: Goes

Slave to the Rhythm (The Rhythm #1) by Jane Harvey-Berrick — I haven’t matched with this author, so I’mma let this go.

Verdict: Goes

The Start of Me and You (The Start of Me and You #1) by Emery Lord — That’s a lot of overwhelmingly positive reviews from friends, so stays.

Verdict: Stays

The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson — A favourite of a friend of mine, so I gotta try it.

Verdict: Stays

The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson — I haven’t read anything by this author yet, but this seems like the perfect summer read.

Verdict: Stays

Rules of a Rebel and a Shy Girl by Jessica Sorensen — I’m a bit waffly about this one, but I think I’m going to be ruthless and let it go. I have enough books by this author between her few series that I kept, and so I’m going to go with trimming down.

Verdict: Goes

Big Rock (Big Rock #1) by Lauren Blakely — The blurb really rubs me the wrong way, but I see some friends reviews that had similar hesitations and still enjoyed it, so I’ll trust all those great reviews and keep it for now. And since it’s in a box set, I’ll keep them all for now (5 to keep).

Verdict: Stays

Chasing Polaris by Erica Cope & Autumn Doughton — I really enjoy Ms. Doughton’s books, so definitely keeping this for now.

Verdict: Stays

Snowflake Kisses (Kpop Romance) by Jennie Bennett — I enjoy this little kpop novellas, so definitely keeping.

Verdict: Stays

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith — Oh yeah, still interested.

Verdict: Stays

  1. I loved Lord’s book. It was so good! I did not like the sequel, so you don’t need to read that. I also like The Unexpected Everything. It was good. Both are great YA contemporaries. I LOVED Big Rock when I read it. The best friends to lovers and fake relationship were a lot of fun.
