Blurb:

After All the Feels and Spoiler Alert, Olivia Dade once again delivers a warm and wonderful romantic comedy about two co-stars who once had an incredible one-night stand—and after years of filming on the same remote island, are finally ready to yield to temptation again…

Maria’s one-night-stand—the thick-thighed, sexy Viking of a man she left without a word or a note—just reappeared. Apparently, Peter’s her surly Gods of the Gates co-star, and they’re about to spend the next six years filming on a desolate Irish island together. She still wants him…but he now wants nothing to do with her.

Peter knows this role could finally transform him from a forgettable character actor into a leading man. He also knows a failed relationship with Maria could poison the set, and he won’t sabotage his career for a woman who’s already walked away from him once. Given time, maybe they can be cooperative colleagues or friends—possibly even best friends—but not lovers again. No matter how much he aches for her.

For years, they don’t touch off-camera. But on their last night of filming, their mutual restraint finally shatters, and all their pent-up desire explodes into renewed passion. Too bad they still don’t have a future together, since Peter’s going back to Hollywood, while Maria’s returning to her native Sweden. She thinks she needs more than he can give her, but he’s determined to change her mind, and he’s spent the last six years waiting. Watching. Wanting.

His shipwrecked Swede doesn’t stand a chance.

My Review:

5 stars — Wow.  Just, this was more than everything I was looking for in a book, and I loved it from start to finish.  Sometimes I find 5 star reviews the hardest to write, because there’s so much I feel, but I don’t want to spoil anything and I feel weird just absurdly gushing, but whatever…

These characters were everything.  They had soooo much depth and nuance and at their core they were both just exceptional, but really different human beings.  I was worried near the beginning when Peter lashed out and behaved abominably that he wouldn’t get back into my good graces, but he did…slowly but surely, not all at once, but I saw how he knew he’d behaved badly and how he tried to do better.

The growth in these characters was remarkable and perfectly paced.  I was already so in love with how strong and joyful and caring Maria was, but she wasn’t without her own struggles.  Learning about her past broke my heart, and I was so appreciative of seeing those moments of growth at the pivotal point in the story.  I feel like it wouldn’t have been well balanced if it had all been on Peter’s side.  And it shows that even the most joyful/happy of people have things they’re working on.

Peter’s past also broke my heart, on a completely different level.  Seeing him come to certain realizations at the end just felt so cathartic…for him, and for me as a reader.

The most amazing thing about this book is that while there was a lot of depths that were plumbed, the balance with the wit and the humour and the joy was sheer perfection.  This book made me so HAPPY.  It made me laugh and smile and giggle and just feel…GOOD.

I very rarely give out full 5 stars, and this book earned every single one of them.

COYER Community: I buddy read this book with Berls, and we both fell completely in LOVE!  We couldn’t get enough, and we savoured all the beautiful and hilarious moments.  I loved gushing about the story with her, it made the experience even more of a delight.  We both gave it 5 stars, and you can read her review here.
