Blurb:

War is being waged against the Descendants and Saira Elian is desperate to stop the Mongers’ savage bid for power …

Saira’s search for kidnapped mixed-bloods draws her into the Mongers’ stronghold, revealing the horrible truth behind the irresistible Monger ring and the vile plan to cleanse Family bloodlines … permanently.

Under threat of a brutal massacre, Saira and Ringo travel back to Bletchley Park during World War II where they team up with Archer from the past to crack a Nazi code and expose a Monger intent on changing the course of history. They join forces with a female commando from the French resistance to hunt down an elite unit of Monger soldiers – Hitler’s Werewolves – before the terror squad can strike a fatal blow at the heart of the Allied war effort.

Their manhunt drags Saira, Archer, and Ringo into the London Underground on the eve of a Nazi bombing raid where they come face-to-face with a Monger assassin on a suicide mission. With the lives of all mixed-bloods in peril, Saira must make a sacrifice that even Time may never forgive.

My Review:

4 stars — The realities of WWII as presented through Saira’s eyes was just…HARD.  Like so many people, I’m morbidly fascinated by that war, but I purposely avoid it because it’s just really hard to take.  And it was hard here.  We got to see amazing people, and horrific monsters, and also all the in between people making bad choices on occasion.  I appreciated that reality as well, that war is just complicated.

There were definitely moments that I totally guessed early, but then there were other moments that I didn’t see coming at all (and for one of them, I was delighted!).  I loved the way Ms. White dealt with the complications of time travel and knowing people at different times in both your life and their life.  And because we got some present Archer POV chapters on occasion, we got to see those conversations from different perspectives.

There were a lot of little moments that were very impactful.  I love that we got to see a different side to Millicent.  I loved that we got to see more Connor and Logan.  I loved that we got to see the Arman twins in this one.

Saira has definitely grown a LOT from the beginning of this series.  I still on occasion have a harder time connecting with her, but she is a character that I have wholeheartedly grown to love.

Ringo remains the absolute star for me, as he probably does for many.

The ending was surprising.  I think I might have gotten lost with so many things going on, and it didn’t seem to have the emotional impact on me that I was expecting.  Maybe because there’s one more book left?  I don’t know.  Maybe it was mood?

Either way, I am so excited to finish off the main plot of the series in the next book…I’m fascinated to see how things will play out.

COYER Community: I have ADORED buddy reading this series with Berls.  I’ve actually tried to remain in synch with her, and so we can actually have some good conversations at different points, rife with speculation and theory.  She also rated it 4 stars (her review coming soon).
