Blurb:

I fear I've made a mistake.

I left a pampered life and a loveless relationship to live on an icy primeval world, all for the promise of a soulmate and children. But three years have passed, and my hopes and dreams have become dashed. I haven't resonated. Without resonance, there will be no children for me, and no loving mate.

So I keep waiting, and waiting . . .

But then I come up with a brilliant plan to get me everything I want. And my plan needs a volunteer, one that would be happy to be my mate in all ways. Luckily, I know just who to approach . . .

My Review:

4 stars — I was worried about this one, because I had kind of expected Daisy to have changed a lot given her burns at the end of that last book.  But she really hadn’t.  We got a look inside her head, and initially I was pretty disappointed.  And even O’jek was a bit…brusque.  Which is EXACTLY what I had expected from them, but I was wanting more.

But my patience was rewarded.  As time went on I was able to see at least WHY Daisy was the way she was — she truly had been trained to be that way and think that way, and she hadn’t bothered to adjust to the new world.  And while I truly did wish she’d grown earlier in the book, when she finally did decide to grow, it was more realistic and more satisfying somehow.  Seeing her come to new realizations on her own instead of just being talked down to all the time was at least gratifying.  I wasn’t expecting that.  It’s the reason it’s not 3.5 stars instead — I truly believed her growth and appreciated the way it came about.  She was still Daisy.

And O’jek definitely had his own set of traumas in his past that contributed to him as he was.  I definitely felt for him at moments, but he wasn’t without his own flaws and jerkish moments.  I think that balanced them as a couple a bit more, so I didn’t mind that.  He definitely had a lot of foot in mouth disease going on, which is funny since Daisy is oversensitive, but his heart is golden.

And they did in fact have great chemistry, both as friends and then as more.  I was worried it would feel like Daisy taking advantage, but it smoothed out in the end.

Only one more left!  I can definitely see coming back and relistening to my faves in this and IPB when I need a quick pick me up.
