My rating:
Blurb:Melissa Foehner is a rock star babysitter—er, Tour Logistics Manager—with the patience of a saint. That is until her star and his slacker buddy go missing. Now nothing will stop her from getting the show back on the road… Not even a broad set of shoulders and a smart mouth.
This is an 8k short story included in the LOL Anthology. Love in Tune is a standalone story that takes place at The Brew Ha Ha.
3 stars — Knowing this was in one of those charity anthologies before helped me to know what to expect — which is a short story, not even a novella. Just a fun little taste. And it went okay.
The problem was that I didn’t really fully understand the conflict between Melissa and Kyle, like I think I was supposed to. I get there were probably misunderstandings, and that he was acting like a jerk because he liked her — you know, that kindergarten stuff that just doesn’t quite do it for me. So the problem is that even seeing him nervous and blundering at the end wasn’t endearing, b/c he didn’t really apologize or try to see it from her side. Like his explanation was supposed to be enough. And…it wasn’t really.
Also, this story is almost 10 years old, and I wasn’t feeling the kiss without consent as much as I might have back then. Obviously not forced or anything, but it just rode that line a bit closer than I would like.
So yeah. *shrugs* If you don’t have this (since it doesn’t appear to be available anymore), I truly wouldn’t lose sleep over it — it was only VERY LOOSELY related to Brew Ha Ha, so you won’t miss anything.
