My Review:

4 stars — There were definitely a lot of emotions in this one.  Some startling ups and downs I wasn’t expecting, and that hurt my heart.

I don’t know why, but I didn’t feel quite as wowed by this one.  I still adored it, but it felt…faster?  I’m not sure if that’s actually accurate, or just the brain space I was in, if that makes sense.

I had a hard time forgiving Gio right alongside B.  I get that *he* thought he was right.  I even get that his old age has probably left him with an inaccurate sense of time for humans, and that contributed.  But seriously.  And dude, listen to that kid of yours!  He’s pretty smart.  When I got over my anger towards Gio (it came and went over the story), I really loved that you could tell he was all in.  I may have been frustrated and had a hard time understanding his reasons for the absence, but I appreciated that once he was in, he was all in.  But seriously, he was ridiculously oblivious at times.  He’s so smart, but so dumb as well.  😛  Good thing he’s handsome.  😉

While I got a bit frustrated with how long B kept Gio at arm’s length, I understood her reasons more.  Maybe because she’s human?  *snort*  But either way, I do appreciate that at the turning point, we got to see even more clearly what was behind her reluctance to trust.  I loved seeing B get stronger and stronger, and more settled into herself as the story went on.  She didn’t just sit back and wait for others to save her, she wanted to save herself.

I feel like the mystery was a bit more background…or maybe it’s just that it was different because of the mystery they were trying to solve?  Or maybe it’s because I knew who the bad guy was…but it’s not the who so much as the why.

I appreciated that we got to meet a lot of new vampires in this one, and they were all fairly different.  Though I guess a lot of them were water vampires, so they had an underlying personality trait.  I kind of enjoyed that they enjoyed political machinations, though that’s usually something I’m not into…regardless I still liked them in general.

I LOVED Ben!  What a great addition.  I love what he brings out in Gio, as well as B.  I also appreciated that we see Gio sort of moving forward after Caspar found his HEA.

I’m enjoying finally learning more about B’s father, and I can’t wait to see where the story is going to go in book 3!
