Blurb:

End of Days is the explosive conclusion to Susan Ee’s bestselling Penryn & the End of Days trilogy. After a daring escape from the angels, Penryn and Raffe are on the run. They’re both desperate to find a doctor who can reverse the twisted changes inflicted by the angels on Raffe and Penryn’s sister. As they set off in search of answers, a startling revelation about Raffe’s past unleashes dark forces that threaten them all.

When the angels release an apocalyptic nightmare onto humans, both sides are set on a path toward war. As unlikely alliances form and strategies shift, who will emerge victorious? Forced to pick sides in the fight for control of the earthly realm, Raffe and Penryn must choose: Their own kind, or each other?

My Review:

4.5 stars — I gobbled this one up.  I can honestly say that I truly believe that Caitlin Davies’s narration enhanced my reading experience.  I wonder if I’d have enjoyed it quite this much if I’d just read it.  She just adds so much to the performance that I can’t help but want to listen more and more.  I was up way too late last night saying “just one more chapter…okay, just one more.”  I’m sad for everyone who doesn’t know what it sounds like to have Dee and Dum arguing with each other in the voices she does for them.  Or even all the fallen angels…how she can keep track of all those voices, I have NO IDEA.  All I know is that I can see myself relistening to this series in the future, and I highly recommend giving it a shot to see if her style suits you as well.

I haven’t looked at others’ reviews again, but I can honestly say I wasn’t disappointed with that ending at all!  I mean, I suppose there were parts that were convenient and rushed, but I was just so absorbed and in it that I guess I didn’t care.  Or maybe I went in with low expectations, expecting to be let down, and that’s the trick.  Either way it wrapped up nicely for me.  There were so many parts that I didn’t guess, and I can honestly say that there were times I was worried Ms. Ee was just going to scorch the earth, so I was on the edge of my seat.  I loved the different weird battles, the odd little twists and turns, I just had fun you know?

I still love Penryn.  I really do.  I still love Raffe.  I LOVED that we got to see more of them together, and there was a slightly bigger romance part (though still just a small section).  I still think Dee and Dum are the most hilarious thing since…uh, sliced bread doesn’t make sense does it?  Anyways, I loved them.  I still loved Pooky Bear.  I enjoyed Paige and her mother’s roles.  I LOVED the introduction of the fallen, and the explanation for a certain someone’s harshness.  My heart broke at times, and rallied at others.

What can I say?  It’s nice not being too picky, and (occasionally) being easily entertained.  Sometimes I can be picky over the stupidest things, and other times I’m all in!  This was the second kind…  Also, I kind of want a movie rendition, but holy cow would the special effects budget have to be massive!  Too bad it appears the author has disappeared…

I just realized this review is seriously lacking meat.  I don’t know what to say.  I loved it.  I’m currently in book hangover.  Enough said.
