FIRST IN A NEW PARANORMAL SERIES!

I like to pretend I’m just another immigrant trying make her way in New York City…but I’m not.

You may know of my family from stories of an older age. Across all nations, all cultures, my family was once worshipped as gods, cursed as demons and shunned as otherworldly creatures.

Reality? I am shen, but the worst kind of shen there is.

One who would rather pretend to be human than to rule them.

One with no magic.

One hunted by the immortal monster that killed my parents.

And now, I just discovered how grandma found us refuge in America, how she thought she could save me.

She betrothed me – to a dragon.

My Review:

Favorite Quotes:

“Hey,” said Lucas, his voice slightly bored, as if he was used to picking up naked and dirty people from in front of a flaming building in the middle of the night on a regular basis. “You both can keep eye-fucking each other in the back seat. Let’s get out of here.”

It was alright.  This was an light, easy read.  The characters were a bit superficial and one dimensional but the story helped to even it out.  That said, the story wasn’t that great either.  It seemed as if there were some bad guys that were after Sophia but the reason they are after her is a bit vague.  Just a kind of all encompassing evil.  And I that’s not really my thing, I like to know more about the background, it helps to build my connection to the characters and the story.  I also didn’t like that the dragons existence was the reason the evil was there in the first place.

I don’t know, it was kinda all over the place with the saving the world stuff.  And I found the romance to be a bit….extra? Like, it wasn’t necessarily needed to move forward in the story.  They made it sound that way with the dragons ability to protect her, but even then he wasn’t really able to, so that fell short.  And the romance just didn’t seem to be appropriate in the aspect of ‘the worlds gonna end but hang on, let me get my rocks off real quick’.  if that makes sense.

At any rate, I will not be reading more in this series.  But it did help to pass the time in between heavy reads.
